Mine

Montauk was a beautiful place in the summer.

It was even more beautiful in the spring, when the water was just barely warm enough to swim in, before all the tourists came, before the sand had completely thawed out.

It was even more perfect when you got to take your girlfriend with on your annual late spring beach trip.

At least that's what Percy thought.

It was only the two weeks of spring break, barely enough time to actually relax or do any projects not related to school.

But it was enough time to relax on a beach in the sun for a couple hours, before it got too cold and the sun went down.

It was spring break junior year of college, and Percy had convinced his mother to let him and Annabeth stay at the cabin at Montauk for a couple days before the rest of the family came down. With Estelle and Paul still in school they only got Thursday, Friday, and the following Monday off, while Percy and Annabeth got two whole weeks.

He had also taken the full two weeks off from his part time job waiting tables at a restaurant on campus, deciding to be with his family instead of at college. It helped that it was closed for most of the break anyways.

Percy had stocked up with groceries on the way there,  getting plenty of bread, frozen pizza, cheep wine (and grape juice that came in champagne bottles so Estelle wouldn't feel left out- she was only four), and plenty of extra socks. Old buildings got very drafty, and Percy hated nothing more than having cold feet.

Annabeth was on the couch, sketchbook on her lap, sketching away.

"Do you remember the first time we came out here? Before we first started dating?" She asked.

"Well, yeah. How could I forget? We were sitting out there by the water, and you put your arm around me for the first time. It was when I first realized that you might actually like me," he said, taking the couple steps over to the couch to sit with her.

"You didn't realize I liked you when I legitimately kissed you like a year before?" She set her sketchbook on the coffee table in front of her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and she leaned into his touch.

"You left right after and never said a word about it! I thought it was a fluke."

She laughed. "I rarely do things on accident, Percy."

"I know that, but I mean, we had just seen a movie and I picked it so I thought you didn't like it because you looked like you were having a bad time and-" he was cut off by her lips on his.

"I liked Kung Fu Panda. I was just antsy because I was trying to work up the nerve to kiss you."

"Why have we never talked about this before? That would've been- what- seven years ago?" He chuckled a little at that.

"Oh, I don't know, it never came up?" She offered.

And then they were both laughing, drinking in each other, ready for whatever the break would throw at them.

"I love you so much," Annabeth said, leaning back to look at him.

"Have I told you that you're the best thing that's ever been mine?" He asked. The look he gave her was so filled with love that she couldn't help but smile.

"No, but you can tell me all you like," she said.

She might've kissed him after that.

They might not have left the couch for a couple hours, kissing and whispering sweet nothings.

It might have been the best night they had spent together in a long time.
