We got the kids from the Isle with basically no trouble, which was great. They were a little nervous (who wouldn't be?) but everything seemed to be cheerful.

It also seemed like when the VKs had gone to the Isle before Cotillion, there had been two sing-alongs that I had missed, one with Evie teaching Ben how to fit in on the Isle (all of the instructions he completely ignored) and the other with Mal and Uma fighting over Ben, during which Evie mentioned that Mal had hit the ground twice.

I knew exactly what that was supposed to do, but given that magic didn't really work on the Isle, it was no surprise Hades didn't show up, since not only was he a deadbeat, but there was also no real way for him to hear that, considering he wasn't really underground.

Mal was a little distracted by something on the way back, but I didn't ask her about it. I was too busy trying to make time go faster with my mind so I could get back to my bed and take a nap.

I had moved out of my room at Auradon Prep and into Evie's cottage, where she was graciously letting me stay. It might have been because I was really good at making hats and she was running a fashion business (Evie's 4 Hearts, plug plug plug) that I could help with.

In exchange for paying exactly zero dollars in rent, I made hats for her customers and aided with any other sewing project she needed an extra set of hands for. Having the perfect hat to go with any outfit seemed to be a bonus to the business, which was great for both of us. It gave me an excuse to practice my hat-making skills.

Me, Evie, Jay, Carlos and the new VKs went directly to her cottage, while Mal went to have some kind of meeting with King Ben and his parents. I wondered what that was all about, but discovered I didn't really care.

"Hey, Mads, would you mind checking my fabrics stocks? Specifically how much velvet I have. I don't know why, but velvet seems to be the 'it' fashion trend these days," Evie said.

"Yeah, of course. Don't worry about it, though, I know how much you hate velvet and this'll die down quicker than any of the other trends." I checked the fabric stocks, and we had plenty, just like there was plenty when I checked two days ago. "We're good!" I shouted.

"That's great. So, Mal will be showing up here later, just so you know."

"Epic. I'm going to read the news and see what emotions I feel afterward. It's a great mental exercise. I don't recommend it."

I went to my room (which was set up exactly like my old room, except in a different place) and tried to do what I said I would, only to be interrupted by a text from Carlos about something.

I heard the front door open and shut, followed by Mal calling out a greeting to Evie. Their voices faded as they walked somewhere, and I made the decision not to eavesdrop on whatever private conversation they were having.

Hey, I could make good decisions every once in a while. It was a proven fact that I did, in fact, have that ability and could use it at will. I just usually chose not to. Everything I did, I did for the vine. Or to entertain myself. One of the two. Sometimes both.

I ignored whatever was being said downstairs in favor of reading the text, which had a link to an article written by none other than Snow White herself. I had some choice words to say about her journalism and kept my mouth shut as I read.

Apparently, someone had broken into the museum of cultural history and stolen two items: the Queen's crown and Maleficent's scepter. Which was strange, considering the crown was more decorative and it didn't really mean anything, unless you were insane and thought it did.

Also, whoever got the staff from the museum, because that's where we keep magical artifacts, with very little protection, so it must've been pretty easy to get it. Even after four teenagers almost successfully pulled off a heist of one of those magical objects just a little while ago. Okay, yeah. That makes total sense.
