JJ announced on her way up the stairs to the loft, "Okay it's officially a new year, all the big holidays are out of the way for a while, it's time to get to work." She dumped a large binder on the coffee table where my feet were resting along with several bridal magazines. I groaned at the sight, determined to finish the episode of The Great British Baking Show I was on. JJ grabbed the remote out of my hand and muted the TV, "Pay attention."

"But I'm relaxing! It's the weekend, this is the only time I have any peace."

"If we don't plan our wedding, there won't be a wedding."

"I guess that's true." I scooted over on the couch and made room for JJ. She happily plopped down next to me and sat criss-crossed, dragging the binder into her lap. I asked her, "What's that?"

She opened it up and narrated, "I organized it into sections according to what we'll have to figure out: flower arrangements, color themes, menu options, venues, dresses, guests, and my favorite part," she pointed to a page, "honeymoon destinations." She kissed my cheek and then diverted her attention back to the binder.

I yawned, "Okay sounds good, you got this." I picked up the remote and unmuted the TV. After a few seconds, I glanced over at JJ and saw her giving me the death stare. I put my hands up, "What?"

She blankly stated, "I'm not doing this alone."

I whined, "Oh come onnn, Jayje, do you really want my help with this anyway? Isn't this more like... Penelope's thing?"

"I'm not marrying Penelope, I'm marrying you. Turn the damn TV off or I'll reconsider my answer to your proposal."

"As you wish." I turned the show off and threw the remote onto the reclining chair next to us. I shifted my body to face JJ, giving her my undivided attention.

She softly said to me, "I know this kind of stuff isn't really your 'thing' but I still want you to be involved because it's our wedding and we only get to do one. It's important to me."

I nodded, "It's important to me too I just feel like every decision I make will be wrong."

"That's not true. Here..." She flipped the binder to a specific page. It was covered in pictures of petals and bouquets. She chirped, "Let's start with something easy: flowers. I already picked some choices, so we have roses, lilies, and tulips. Which one do you like best?"

I nervously bit my nails, "Um... Well, w-which do you like?"

"That's not what I asked you. I know you have an opinion, Em, and I wanna hear it. No answer is the wrong answer."

"I like the tulips. But I wanna do whatever you wanna do, it doesn't matter what I think."

She chuckled, "Emily, of course it matters! I actually liked the tulips too, but I couldn't decide on a color."

"What about white?"

"I like white but I feel like it'll be... too much white? If that makes sense? The dresses are white, veil is white, table settings are white... yeah?"

"Yeah I get that."

"How do you feel about like a pale pink," she pointed to a magazine cover, "like these?"

"I like those, we can do that."

"Perfect!" JJ checked off a box marked "flowers" in her planner. She exclaimed, "Flowers are done!"

I smiled, "Hey that wasn't so bad. What's next?" JJ giggled at my newfound enthusiasm and moved onto the next item on our list. We worked through color themes and menu options before getting to dresses. JJ rambled on and on about the dresses she liked for herself as well as her bridesmaids before moving onto me.

"... So I was thinking we could both do white and I want mine to have some lace on it like the one in this magazine I showed you but yours can be smoother if lace isn't really your thing—"

I stopped her and stammered, "J-JJ? JJ?"

She looked up at me, "Hmm?"

I rubbed the back of my neck and admitted, "I um... I think I wanna wear a suit."

She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "Oh. S-Sorry I didn't know... I just kind of assumed... Well that's fine too, baby."

"It is?" Whenever I envisioned my future wedding, I never saw myself wearing a dress. It just didn't come naturally to me, and I always felt more empowered in a suit. JJ was so into this, though, so I didn't think she'd go for the unorthodox route of me wearing a suit. Her support was a shock to me.

"Of course! I want you to do whatever makes you feel comfortable."

"Really? I-I didn't think you'd be... okay with this."

"Baby, I want our wedding day to be just the way each of us want it to. It's not all about me." She nudged me and bit her lip, "Besides, I think you always look so delicious in suits."

I blushed and looked down, "Yeah?"

"Mmhmm, sooo handsome." She softly pecked my lips and then went back to the book, "Okay... So forget dresses for you, this section will be just for me and I'll make another section for suits. Oh um... Do you want bridesmaids or no? Bridesmen?"

I laughed, "Well you know I don't have very many female friends. My brother can be my 'best man' and then I could actually get Derek and Spencer up there if that's fine with you?"

"Really? You're okay with Derek and Spence in your bridal party?"

"Yeah. Maybe Hotch too." JJ held back a laugh as she wrote all this down in her binder. I smiled at her, "What?"

"Nothing. I'm just imagining all those morons up there with you and it's making me laugh. Okay, moving on. Now, do you already have a suit picked out? Because now I'm thinking we could match or at least have your pocket square match. Oh and do you want a patterned tie or just plain? Or a bow tie maybe? Because that might be too busy, yeah? If you do have a pattern though it should probably match with our color theme." She looked up at me for the first time in 30 seconds and saw me gazing at her. She scrunched her eyebrows, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Because I love you."

She stuffed her face back into the magazines before quickly replying, "Thank you but that doesn't help me plan our wedding. So are we thinking patterns? Because..." I let her ramble on and laughed at how cute she was before looking at the clock. It read 7:34. We've been up in the loft planning since 5:30 when we finished eating dinner.

I interrupted JJ's chatting, "Babe how bout we stop now?"

"But we haven't picked the napkin designs yet?"

I lied through my teeth and sarcastically remarked, "And I am so excited pick napkin designs with you, but we've been up here for two hours."

"It's only 7:30 though."

"Right. I say we go put Henry down for bed and thennn you and I head into the bathroom, because this night calls for a candlelit bubble bath with my beautiful fiancée."

She hummed, "Mmm that sounds nice actually." JJ gave in and put all her planning materials away before heading down the stairs of the loft with me to Henry's room. We interrupted his playing to get him ready for sleep and tucked into bed. Once his door was shut, I carried JJ upstairs to our bathroom where we stayed for another hour or two, enjoying a bath. Among other things.
