Weeks passed by. I started getting used to living here. Things at school seemed to be going fine. I spent most of my time with Karan and Caroline.
The weather started getting only a little bit cooler but still pretty hot.
I walked out on the patio with a book I started reading called, "the perks of being a wallflower".
It's actually a pretty good book. I feel bad for Charlie though. He seems so lonely in the beginning but he meets some new friends that I would actually like to hang out with in real life.
I sat down on the bench and put my legs up so I was facing sideways.
As Im reading the book I feel my phone ringing in my overalls shorts front pocket.
"Hello." I say closing my book.
"Hey Carmen, wanna come over my house and maybe hang out at the park later?" He said
"Uh.. Sure, erm, can I bring my friend?" I ask thinking about Caroline.
"Yeah, I was gonna bring my cousin anyways."
"Okay well i'll be over in a few."
"Kay, I'll be here." he said and we hung up.
I readjusted the folds of my shorts and stood up with my book.
"Tia I'm going to a friends house!!" I shouted through the screen door.
"Okay! Be safe!" She shouted back.
I started to walk down to Karan's house. It wasn't really a long walk but I enjoyed it. I've only been in front of his house last week. I never went inside.
I walked up to the house, it really wasn't much different than ours except instead of being a cream color it was a darker brown and didn't have palm trees. Also the two vehicles in the driveway, Karan's car and a van. Everything else was identical.
I walked up the driveway, and knocked on the door.
A dark skinned man with wide glasses and dark curly hair opened the door with tired eyes.
"Uh.. Hello," I hesitated "is.. um..Karan is expec-"
"Hey, Carmen. Come in." karan said running down the steps.
His hair was all over the place and he looked like he just woke up.
The man at the door stepped aside and Karan started talking to his dad in some other language.
I walked inside not knowing what to do or say.
"This is my dad." Karan said putting his arm around his father.
"Hello sir, nice to meet you." I wasn't sure if I should shake his hand or what, so I just did a short wave.
" Hallo, Ca'man. " he said happily with a smile. "how you are liking it here." his accent was thick but understanding.
"It's better than i thought." I said.
Before his father could continue talking, Karan said,
"Dad me and Carmen are going to go to my room with Umer. We will ho to the park soon." He started pushing me up the stairs in a rush way.
When we reached the top of the steps, I could hear his dad humming in a chime.
When we stopped at his room door and gave him a confused look.
"Oh, I was just saving you from a long story. We would have been there until it got dark." he said running his hand through his dark hair.
We walked inside his room and I a boy sat at the computer desk spinning side to side in the chair.
