Surprisingly.

Surprisingly, a fair election had been held, to assess who was most suitable to wear the crown of the Isle.

And unsurprisingly, the challenger had failed.

Maleficent stood upon the balcony of Bargain Castle, glancing down on all the citizens who were walking by, Most that had their hands in pockets — whether it was theirs or others — were pickpocketing, and you had the occasional shoplifting of some items off the front shelf, mainly Jafar. She had already seen the Grand Vizier of Agrabah (former, of course, since the role had been appointed to the recently freed Genie upon Jasmine's succession of the throne) walk by the stall set up right in on of the alleys that the Bargain Castle overlooked, and the Vizier's coat had fattened up since the first time he had walked by.

"Mal." Hades suddenly showed up behind her, and with a hurried glance to make sure no one saw the two of them, Maleficent quickly shoved him back into the castle, drawing the black curtains quickly, "I only just got the title, Hades. If they were to see us being so intimate, I'd lose it to Grimhilde." "But we only just got married. Not even a honeymoon month, no?" Hades's muscular arm had her skinny waist locked in position tightly, and Maleficent blushed faintly, "No public display of affection, Hades. That was something we agreed on."

"What we agreed on, Maleficent, was only about no kissing in public." Hades reached out to lock her chin as well, forcing her to look up at him, and before Maleficent could argue, Hades had already silenced her. "I should get used to this. We've already known each other for three years." Maleficent thought to herself, but even as Hades readjusted his grip on her, his lips slackening slightly, Maleficent was forced to pull away, heat creeping up her neck as she panted, "I...I need to breathe, Hades, that was too much..."

"Too much of what? Surely not too much for newly weds, Mal?" Hades smirked, moving in for a second round, and Maleficent barely managed to dodge his attack as she smacked his chest with whatever strength she could summon, "If you dare use that reason another time, I am throwing you out of my castle." "I have news for you, Mal." Hades changed the topic abruptly, knowing that it wouldn't go anywhere when Maleficent was being so insistent, and his action caused Maleficent to almost fall. After all, having been resisting him all the while and then to be released so suddenly, she hadn't had enough time to react, and thankfully, the sofa was right below her. Without much struggle, she plopped down on the sofa rather much like a spineless snake, "What is it?"

"My brother...he has intentions to force me to resume my duties."

Blink.

"What?"

"Zeus is asking me...to return to the Underworld." Hades muttered, sitting down beside Maleficent, and confusion crossed her face, "So...you can leave the Isle?" "Technically, yes. But without you." Hades averted his gaze, not quite daring to meet Maleficent's piercing gaze, and for the first time, ever since she came onto the Isle and swapped her kindness for a different demeanor, Maleficent grew numb as she demanded, "What?" "I'll have to return without you if I choose to. Our marriage will be nullified if I return back to the Underworld." Hades tucked a strand of hair that had fallen into her face when she had frozen where she was, and Maleficent brought her eyes level to him.

"And what did you say to him then, Hades?" Her voice was hushed, her expression ashen as she found herself pleading, begging, that her newfound love would not abandon her as her previous one did. But all he did was to reach out, to cup both her ears with his hands, and without any sound, Maleficent watched as Hades mouthed a single phrase:

Never. I am never letting you go.

And this time, she willingly melted into his arms, her lips on his faster than pyroclastic flow from a volcano.
