"You went hunting and gained nothing out of it?"
Jay sounded far too disappointed. "No reveling in blood?" Carlos squeaked from behind a cushion, "Bathing in pheasant blood, or something?" "I'm neither demonic nor cultish." Mal threw them an ominous glare, "Which part of that I have inherited from my mother makes you think I wallow in bloodlust?" "Every part." Evie stared dreamily at the full length mirror in their dorm room, "Your mother wanted Aurora dead, remember? And Phillip?" "Not bloodied and agonised." Mal scoffed, "Peaceful deaths, people. In their sleep? How much blood can be released from a prick of the finger on a spindle anyway?"
"I'd say about twice the amount of a needle's prick. Meaning to say it wouldn’t be a lot, if the platelets did their job, but oh, what would I know?" A sudden appearance was made at their door, and Mal raised her eyebrows at the handle, "How'd you-" "It wasn't locked." The bob haircut bounced a few times as the girl skipped in, "Name's Lonnie, by the way." “And...how is that supposed to help me know who you are?” Mal didn’t lower her eyebrows as she continued to question Lonnie with her gaze, and the girl sighed, “Mulan and Li Shang’s daughter? Ring any bells?” “It’s not like Shan Yu is any of our fathers.” Mal relaxed her shoulders, nonetheless still wary of Lonnie, “Why’d you come here anyway?”
“You can do gateway magic. Which, I am in some need of.” Lonnie answered almost as once, flashing Mal a bright smile, “Besides, I’ve been one of Ben’s best friends growing up. Figured that I should get to know his girlfriend.” She didn’t notice the cringe that traversed the room at the word ‘girlfriend’, nor Mal’s hesitation to speak right after that, “I’ve heard what you did to Jane. If you don’t mind...” “Did what to Jane?” Jay frowned almost at once, “Mal, you did something to Fairy G’s daughter?” “Just some magic.” The leader of their gang tossed him a warning glare, before she turned to Lonnie suspiciously, “How’d you know I did it? She could have done it herself, being Fairy Godmother’s daughter and all.”
“It doesn’t quite run in her veins. She was born of magic, and most of her magic is in her existence.” Lonnie shrugged, and Evie whipped around in sudden interest, “Born of magic?” “Fairies can do that, sometimes, to extend their heritage. They take a part of their magic, or their life force, and turn it into another life.” Lonnie explained, “Shouldn’t you have detected it? Fairy G isn’t immortal anymore. She took her immortality and turned it into Jane. That’s why she looks like a woman of mid-thirties; her age changed to become equivalent to a portion of a mortal’s.”
The room went silent, before Mal started to laugh, and the 3 VKs tensed almost at once.
“You know,” She drawled, “Telling four villain spawn that the being who created the jail that they were locked in — and their parents are still being locked in — could potentially lead to the person’s murder.” “You jest.” Lonnie saw right through her at once, her voice full of confidence, “If you had wanted her dead, you would have tried other methods, and you wouldn’t need me telling you that she was mortal.” “Fair enough.” Mal tilted her head, “What did you say you were here for, again?”
And Lonnie lifted a pouch, its contents jingling as she held it up for them all to see.
“If you can change this bob into something much more sufferable, you won’t have to worry about a week’s worth of expenses.”
...
“I can see why Ben likes you now.”
Three days had passed, and despite all the girls that suddenly became a lot more interested in speaking with Mal, Lonnie was the only one who really succeeded in becoming more acquainted with the purple haired girl. “You do?” Mal slid her tray onto the table even as she sat down, “I don’t even know it myself. What is it, exactly?” “Not that you’d believe me if I said your sarcasm, but...” Lonnie laughed as she waved a hello to Evie, who sat beside Mal, “It’s your personality, perhaps. The way you carry yourself...it’s very different how we have grown up holding ourselves to be. Perhaps that is what attracted him in the first place.”
