It had been a week since the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. A week since Aerin's supposed 'death'. Luckily for you, Aerin was alive as she had been taken by a soldier of Rohan. He rode all the way back to Rohan as he noticed who she was and how she was still slightly breathing. In Rohan, Aerin was immediately treated as best as they could and was given a horse and released.

Aerin rode down the hill of Edoras feeling the wind flow through her hair. She sucked her stomach in not wanting her bandages to unravel on her way back to Gondor. She rode through fields of long green grass and along cliff tops so tall she could barely see the water below. She was mesmerised by the colour of the sky as it turned from light blue to dark blue.

It was pitch black when she rode across the Pelennor Fields and into the white city. She was exhausted and hungry, almost desperate. It had been a five day journey of hardly any food or water. As soon as she entered the gates she heard a horn being blown and the people of Minas Tirith rushed out of their houses so see what was going on. Guards flooded out towards the crowded streets followed by Aragorn and Legolas. Gimli was running behind slow as usual, and of course muttering to himself.

Aragorn immediately rushed over to Aerin who was wearing a long, dark cloak to keep her warm. "A-A-Aerin...?" He questioned as he helped her get off her horse before she collapsed into his arms due to exhaustion. Aerin just looked up at him, but could barely speak from exhaustion. "Someone bring her to the castle chambers!" Aragorn ordered as Legolas and Gimli reached behind him. It was too dark to see clearly but Legolas new it was Aerin.

...

Aerin woke up the next morning in well lit room due to the windows being open. The room was painted white and she looked up to a face she had missed.  ''The War is over,'' Aerin sniffled, ''Sauron is no more. It's- It seems a dream, I-''

''It is not a dream,'' Legolas smiled with sympathy as he gently stroke her hair. ''We are free.'' Legolas smiled, ''Yes, we are.''

''I cannot believe it.'' And she could not. Not quite yet. ''You will get used to it,'' he smiled still, ''It will be easy to get used to it.'' Aerin took his hand. ''It's very good to see you, Legolas,'' she said. ''It's good to see you too, galad e-guilen (light of my life), I thought you had gone for good'' he said, placing a kiss on her cheek. ''Oi! Lass, you're awake!''

''Gimli!'' Aerin shouted across the room. ''Shushhhhhhhhh,'' one of the healers hissed, to which Gimli cringed a bit and Aerin laughed. ''I was real worried for you, lass,'' he said, ''And see? If you had more meat on those bones, it'd take the enemy longer to get to them.''

''That's a poor joke to tell to someone who's almost entirely broken,'' Aerin said though she tried her hardest not to laugh. ''Eh, I was just trying to lift ya spirits a bit,'' he scratched his head. ''It's quite alright, Master Gimli,'' Aerin finally laughed, ''You've succeeded, as always.'' He grinned and stroked his long beard. ''Everyone's been worrying over you, lass. No one would leave you alone for a second, until the healers practically banned us from these quarters,'' he grumbled. ''Well, I'm fine now,'' Aerin smiled widely, though she felt so emotional and touched she could barely recognise myself. Aerin thought about how some time ago she could have died alone somewhere up in Pelennor Fields. And now she had all these people who cared for her. It was enough to make one cry. ''I should go tell everyone,'' Gimli said, ''Aragorn might eat his own hand in worry.'' Aerin chuckled to herself as she interlocked her fingers with Legolas'. She looked up at him.

It wasn't a long wait until almost everyone appeared next to Aerin. Faramir, Éowyn and Aragorn first, then Éomer and Gandalf. Gimli seemed to be bringing and escorting people from her bed. Aerin was so happy to see them all she almost started crying again. But she mostly laughed. She was just happy to be able to draw breath still. Legolas never let go of her hand and she didn't want to let go. "Aerin.. " Éowyn cried as she rushed over to her friend. "I was told you were dead.. how..?" She blurted out. Aerin rested her hand on Éowyn's arm. "A Rohirrim soldier saved me, he took me back to Rohan and they healed me." Éomer smiled and she paused. "He deserves a raise." and everyone laughed.

When Aerin saw the look in Aragorn's eyes when he first saw her awake, she could only remember a few more moments in which he seemed just as emotional. ''It would not have been your fault,'' was all Aerin could say to him, but he only smiled and caressed her cheek. It was barely another moment of silence before there were people around Aerin again. This time it was the hobbits. Merry and Pippin practically sang in their cheers, and jumped around almost dancing. Sam and Frodo were smiling wide, but they looked like they had not the strength to cheer.

''You little rascals,'' Aerin laughed at Merry and Pippin who flinched when one of the healers sent them a death glare and looked ready to toss them out. But when Aerin saw Sam and Frodo, she released the tears that she'd been holding in. ''I am so happy to see you,'' she said. Sam and Frodo only smiled, but there was still so much sorrow in their eyes. Aerin wondered if they'd ever again rid themselves of it entirely. ''Thank you,'' she breathed. ''Thank you, Lady Aerin,'' Sam said humbly, ''Had it not been for those who fought bravely, Mister Frodo would have never managed to reach Mount Doom.''

''I would love not to ever hear that name again, Sam,'' Frodo said, placing a hand on his friend's arm. ''How did you escape?'' Aerin questioned shifting uncomfortably in the bed. ''Eagles,'' Legolas explained, ''Led by Gandalf." Aerin smiled. ''Oh. It is good to have a wizard for a friend,'' she said, ''Even better when said wizard has so many unlikely friends himself.''

''Good indeed,'' Merry grinned. ''Oh, it's so good to see you awake,'' Pippin exclaimed again. ''Shhhh!!'' Pippin cringed, and spoke in a lower voice. ''And I would hug you, lady Aerin, but you seem to be-''

''Please don't, Pippin. It's quite alright.'' Sounds of laughter filled the room. One of the healing ladies eventually rushed all the hobbits out, but never even tried telling Legolas to leave. ''Have you been here the entire time?'' Aerin asked. ''I had to leave you for a few minutes,'' he smiled. ''Oh, Legolas,'' she frowned. ''I thought I'd lost you,'' he said finally, ''I prayed and begged for Eru to wake you. And I vowed that if you awoke, if Eru gave you another chance, I would use it. I wouldn't let you go.''

''Legolas...''

''And now you're awake. You're alive and well. So tell me you'll use that chance. Tell me you won't spend a moment of your lives thinking about time and death. Tell me you will live not caring about any of it, ignoring all the obstacles. We are here, and we're not leaving. Tell me you're not leaving either. Tell me you're with us for good.''

''Eru gave me a second chance, and I will use it well,'' Aerin said, ''We will use it, Legolas.''
