*Heather's POV*

"Of course, Mrs. Jordan, I would love to be in charge of that," I reply and she smiles.

"Great! Jake is also helping you," she adds then walks away. That would've been helpful information to tell me before I said yes.

"Heather, you don't have to do it if you don't want to," Jake says walking over to me.

"No, it's all right," I reply and he has on his hoodie with the ear phones attached to them. He has one ear phone in and the other out. "Are you listening to music?"

"Yeah," he replies and looks like he's on the verge of tears. "Loved You First by One Direction," he adds and a tear slips out of his eyes. "No, Niall, you stole her from me!" he shouts into his pocket where his phone must be. I am guessing he's on Niall's solo.

"Look, it's ok, Jake, everything happens for a reason. Let's go to the mall this weekend after the Spring Formal on Friday and look for some girls for you," I suggest and he just nods weakly.

"I guess we could try that," he states and grabs a tissue out of his pocket. He dries his tears then throws the tissue away in the trash can next to him. "I am ok."

"Well, who do you think will be Spring Prince and Princess?" I ask as we begin heading down to the cafeteria to set up for the voting.

"Hopefully Chloe and me," he states dreamily and I grab his arm and look right into his blue eyes.

"Jake I don't know your middle name Sanders, you stop thinking about Chloe and start thinking about other girls like Nicoletta," I state and he just sniffles.

"My middle name is Joseph," he whispers and I just look down at my feet with my hand on my forhead in frustration.

"Ok, fine, Jacob Jospeh Sanders, move on from Chloe!" I shout and he shakes his head.

"She is wonderful and this song describes exactly how I feel. I have Loved You First by One Direction on replay because it's so true," he plops down in the seat behind the table that we are going to set up the voting polls.

"Fine, you don't have to do anything. Just sit there and I will tell people you're doing work since you are unable to do anything productive," I exclaim and he nods in agreement.

I set up the voting ballets and the box to set the ballets inside when the voters are done voting. I quickly cast my vote for Chloe being the Spring Princess and Jake being the Spring Prince. You never know, it could happen. I also vote for my sister as Spring Queen and her boyfriend, Kyle, as Spring King. "Jake, vote," I demand and he votes for the same people as me. "I love how you voted for me as Spring Princess," I state sarcastically.

"I'm sorry," he mumbles.

"It's ok. I just don't know why Chloe has this kind of effect on guys," I admit.

"Do you know Mike in our French class?" he asks and I nod.

"Yes," I reply.

"He likes Chloe as well," he explains and I laugh.

"See? Why do guys like her so much?" I ask.

"Because she isn't afraid to be herself and she's real, you know? She's humble and kind and she isn't like every other girl out there. She is just so carefree and some guys look for that in a girl. Chloe is lucky to have that naturally," he explains and I suddenly become self-conscious.

"Am I like that?" I ask timidly.

"Well, some guys think that you are too much of a know-it-all," he confesses. "They think it's annoying."

"Well then," I say and he just laughs.

"I mean, more guys like you than Chloe," he states. "It's just that no guys think Chloe is annoying."

"Who likes me?"

"Steve, Mark, Ashton, Sean, Christian, and Gary," he responds.

"That is almost all of the popular guys," I point out.

"Ah, I see you're catching on," he states.

"How come all the guys who flirt with every girl they see likes me, but all the sweet and sensitive guys who might actually love a girl and tell her how much she's worth likes Chloe?" I ask offensively. "It's not like I am slutty or anything."

"It's the way you present yourself. I mean, think about it, you care about your appearence all the time," he states.

"All girls do that," I interrupt.

"Not Chloe. You do cheerleading, which is a girly sport," he explains and I just become angry. "Chloe does Field Hockey, Basketball, and Soccer."

"Those sports make you dirty. I hate being dirty," I exclaim and realize how girly that sounded.

"I just made my point. I was talking to Chloe one day and she watches football," he states.

"Football is pointless to watch. Who would want to sit in front of a TV and watch grown men tackle each other?" I ask and Jake just laughs to himself.

"That's the point, Heather. She's more of a tomboy whereas you are more of a girly girl," he exclaims.

"What's wrong with being a girly girl?" I ask.

"You attract the players," he responds and it suddenly becomes quiet. Then, after a few moments of awkward silence, a couple of people walk downstairs to vote. Five of them happen to be Rosie, Morgan, Victoria, Sarah, and Christina.

"Hi, Heather. We think you should just ditch Chloe and come hang out with us tonight," she suggests and I become confused. Jake has both of his ear phones in. I couldn't blame him. He hates Rosie.

"How do you know that I am hanging out with Chloe tonight?" I ask.

"She told us. Well, we asked her, and being the good person that she is, told us," Victoria replies and I just try to look away.

"Besides, you are way better than her. We think you should hang out with us all the time. We were too blind to see it before, but you are so pretty. Please be our best friend," Morgan adds.

"Ok," I agree and Rosie smiles.

"Good. We will be going to the hair salon to get our split ends cut off. And, you may need a whole new makeover. We should go to Sarah's house and get her a new wardrobe and make-up and something to make her one of us," Rosie explains and I smile. "You are going to be popular."

"Ok," I say timidly and she laughs.

"We need to work on her confidence," Christina states and I blush.

"Yes, we do. Gosh, you are so lucky you have friends like us," Rosie exclaims, but there is a certain tone of her voice that is very suspicious, but I am doing it anyway.

**at the hair salon**

"Curl her hair and dye it a little bit more red. Not completely a ginger, but give it an auburn tint to it. Don't overdo it," Rosie explains to the hair dresser who is unfortunately making my hair presentable.

"Ok," she breathes and begins working on my hair. After the dye dries and she finishes blow drying it, she turns my chair around and I look in the mirror. My hair is actually really cute.

"Oh my gosh," I whisper and get out of the chair. I head towards the front of the store when my phone rings. I answer it knowing exactly who it is. "Hello?"

"Heather, where are you?" Chloe's pathetic voice asks through the phone.

"I am hanging out with Rosie now, so you're on your own. Sorry," I add at the end and hang up the phone. I admit, it actually feels good being just a tad rude. I mean, it's not like Chloe will affected any by it. I mean, everyone thinks I am a girly girl anyway. Why not make it true?
