It all started in the fifth year when Sirius woke Regulus up one night. He was shaking him, although that wasn't necessary because he was already awake. He had heard the screaming downstairs, their mother and father giving Sirius hell for liking a Gryffindor boy. Not to mention he was a Lupin.
Anyways, Sirius looked at him with eyes that told him exactly what he was going to say. 'I'm completely done. I'm leaving' his eyes basically said and before he even spoke, in which the younger Black knew it would be hard for him, seeming as it looked like he was about to cry, he stood up and rummaged through his closet.
He took out two bags and threw one at Sirius. "I put the expanding charm on the bags, pack up" he says, his back still facing the older brother as he starts packing for himself.
Of course he wasn't going to let him go by himself. Sure, Regulus was the little brother but that didn't mean he couldn't be the mature one. It was safe to say that the two of Black's would go to the Potter's. It was that or Lupin's. He really hoped it was the Potter's....for absolutely no reason at all. Sirius would just like it better there.
After packing, he sat on his bed and thought long and hard about this decision. Sirius and Regulus were the last two heirs to the Black name, seeings as all of their aunt and uncles had daughters. So if the both of them left, it would be the end of the Black name. He already knew what Sirius would say to that. 'It was about time that name died anyways. We're going to be Potter's. And a future Lupin of course'
Though he had a point, Regulus couldn't help but to hold onto the fact that they weren't going to have it easy. Sure they were safe at the Potter's but for how long? Once the both of them go back to Hogwarts, their life would be hell. Their mother and father can visit or send letters and howlers. Not to mention Malfoy and their cousins once they find out about the Black's running off.
Regulus was interrupted when Sirius knocked on his door. He stood up and grabbed his back, slinging it on his shoulder. "Our parents are in their room, undoubtedly trying to decide our fates, best if we go now" the boy said before motioning for the boy to follow.
There was a certain something about the Black manor that wasn't right. Yes, it was a dark place that felt a bit like the Slytherin common room, but it wasn't that. The house was designed specifically to have creaky floorboards here and there. The reason for the creaking floors, Sirius and Regulus did not know. But what Sirius does know is how to avoid them. Regulus does not.
The Slytherin boy copied the stepping of his Gryffindor brother, praying that he didn't make the wrong footing. But of course, praying never worked for Regulus. He miscalculated one of his steps, causing the floor beneath him to creek, all talking coming to a stop. Sirius looked at him with wide, frightened eyes that told him what to do once more. 'Run'
And that's what they did, down the stairs and out the door, quickly followed by their parents. But being so much younger compared to the two, the brothers were able to jump onto the back of a trolley, watching their parents fade away slowly.
You see, if either Orion or Walburga had their wands, they could have apparated. But in the heat of the moment, the two had left their wands on the bedside drawers, where they put their wands down to dress for bed. Perfect timing.
Sirius looked at Regulus, a small smile evident on his face. Lucky for the two of them, that was the exact trolley that they had to take to the Potter's house. In a few hours, they saw the Muggle neighborhood that the Potter's lived in and Regulus followed Sirius to the right house. He knocked and they both waited.
Of course, James Idiot Fleamont Potter opened the door. Making Regulus look down before looking at his brother then back at James. This ass was smirking. Why was he smirking?
As you can probably tell, dear Regulus was as gay as a pack of Skittles. In which James had tasted the rainbow during a party in the Slytherin common room. They were both intoxicated, well Regulus was definitely high. James on the other hand had two shots of Firewhiskey and felt buzzed. So when Seven Minutes In Heaven was suggested and the two of them were chosen, it was good to bet that the both of them kissed as soon as the closet closed.
So when Regulus Arcturus Black saw James Fleamont Potter, his heart became a bunch of butterflies. Did he show that the boy affected him? Of course not.
"Mum just finished dinner, come on, I'll show you to your rooms." James said before moving to let them in and once they were, he closed the door. He went upstairs, leading the both of them down the hall. "Sirius can take the guest room while Regulus can share..." Oh hell no. "a room with me." Fuck.
James opened the guest room before opening his, showing Regulus two beds, one that was obviously just placed there and the other had grayish blue sheets. Both mattresses had the same covering and Regulus could help but to wonder where the Gryffindor pride was. There was none.
"So Reg..." he started before Regulus looked up at him with glare. "Not a word" he said, shaking his head before setting his bag down on his mattress. Ever since that party, Regulus could not speak to James about it. No matter how many times the poor boy walked to him. He was abruptly ignored, which became common between the two now.
If he was being honest, Regulus was absolutely confused. Both with James' feeling as well as his own. The Gryffindor had been pining over his 'Lily flower' but that all changed after the party. Weirdly enough, the Slytherin did not mind the change of affection.
"Well I'll speak anyway, so come on, dinner remember?" the pretty boy questions before leaving the room and knocking on Sirius' door. "Oi Padfoot, dinner time. Come out you bloke loving dog" he hums and the door opens, showing Sirius there. "Speak for yourself! Minus the dog part of course. More like a stag for you" the long haired boy winks.
Sirius looked at the both of them with a smile, one that Regulus saw way too often whenever Sirius was with James. "I can get used to this" he hums and wraps an arm around James' shoulders, pulling him down the stairs and to the kitchen. "Hello Mrs.Potter! Pleasure to see you again."
Mrs.Potter looked up from where she was setting up the table and smiled at the Black boy. "Sirius! Oh I put two extra plates. And you must be Regulus. Welcome dear" she walks up over and kisses the top of Sirius' head before turning to Regulus with her arms open wide.
With a nudge from both James and Sirius, Regulus hugged his new 'caretaker' almost sighing at the warmth. Hugs weren't huge in the Black family. But so weren't running away. Or being a Gryffindor. Or being a gay. All those things seemed to be nice so far. Maybe he did sort of wish he was in Gryffindor instead of Slytherin. But that was unlikely, obviously.
Mrs.Potter brought the three to the table where Fleamont joined them, sitting on the other side of the table. James smiles at his dad, happy he was home. It was rare that his dad ever joined since he was usually in his potion room or he was at work.
As soon as the food was served, everyone dug in. James and Sirius were eating as sloppy as usual. Regulus had the manner to act properly and had at least ate like someone who wasn't starved for weeks. When everyone was finished, they all retired to bed, seeing as the day had been tiring, especially for the Black boys.
"Goodnight Mrs.Potter, Mr.Potter" Regulus mumbles as he walks up the stairs, too tired to give them a proper farewell before bed. He instantly walked into the room, throwing on a jumper before plopping onto his bed. His thoughts about James had ceased when his head hit the pillow, Regulus falling asleep almost instantly.
