So the day of Diagon Alley came. And Regulus wished he could say that it had come and gone. You see, James and Sirius had persisted that he must tag along, saying that he'd get along with Remus. Which, in some ways, had made sense. In turn, Regulus could get a 'reading buddy', which was something that hadn't made sense to him. Did they expect him to give Remus book recommendations so that they could talk about them? And vice versa?
No thank you. Regulus preferred reading alone anyways.
When they had gotten to the store-filled area with money from Mrs.Potter, the three boys were met with Peter and Remus. Godric the looks Sirius gave Remus were sickly. He was smitten with the boy. And everyone knew it! Regulus couldn't figure out how Remus didn't have a clue. Maybe he was just as dense as his brother was. Or maybe, he was just as oblivious as James.
But it was plain as day that Sirius and Remus liked each other. And Peter...well Peter was just his shy, fidgety self. He never really did get along with Peter. He always thought Regulus had something to hide, or he was just scared of him. The Slytherin didn't actually know the full reason behind Peter's disliking towards him. Not like he cared anyways.
"So where should we go first? May I suggest the new book shop that just opened" Remus says, smiling softly at the thought of a new bookstore at Diagon Alley.
"Yeah yeah, sure. Maybe we can find our school books there too." Sirius smiles, the fact that they were going there for books flying over his head.
"Simp" Regulus mumbles, shaking his head. Sirius tried not to look offended as James and Peter laughed. Remus looked confused for a second before he joined in the laughter. The Slytherin and four Gryffindors went to the said book shop when they had calmed down, getting out their list for Hogwarts.
As Regulus got his books in the aisles, he saw James when he took the book off the shelf. Seems that James saw him too since he smiles at him before leaning against the bookshelf. "Hey there hot stuff, come here often?"
"Seeming as this place just opened, no"
"Oh come on Reggie, enlighten me" James pleads, pouting softly. The younger Black shook his head and rolled his eyes before leaning in as well, raising an eyebrow. "Yes I do"
"Maybe I can take you somewhere else. A change of scenery" he smirks a bit, in which Regulus responds by pushing a book into his face. "That was absolutely horrible" he almost laughs, smiling at him.
"No it was not!"
Meanwhile, Remus and Sirius were having an absolute blast. Sort of. Sirius kept grabbing random books that he thought Remus would like, only to find out that he's already read all the ones he's chosen.
"Really Moony? How much time do you have on your hands to read these many books?" he huffs, grabbing a random book and showing it to Moony. "I haven't actually read that one before Padfoot"
"Really!?" Sirius exclaims excitedly before he looks at the cover of the book he was holding. "Of all of the books, I had to pick up an Atlas" he groans, putting it back. "Nice try" Remus laughs, patting the top of his head.
An hour later, and the five boys were finished getting their books, Peter being the first to finish and had sat on one of the tables, bored out of his mind. They all got the rest of their things before heading home. Of course, Sirius was a bit sad to leave Remus but when James reassured him that it would only be for another week, he was fine.
At the end of the day, when James and Regulus were getting ready for bed, Gryffindor looked at his roommate. "What do you say about us going to Diagon Alley, just me and you? Before going back to Hogwarts."
"Are you asking me on a date Potter?" At this point, Regulus had gotten used to teasing James whenever they were in the confinement of their room.
"Yes, yes I am"
Regulus looked up from the book that he was reading, his face filled with shock. "You want me to go on a date with you?" he asks, almost laughing out loud at how good of a joke it was. But honestly, on the inside, he was twisting and turning.
"I would very much like to go on a date with you" he repeats to the other boy for extra measure, a grin on his face that told Regulus that he was being rather serious.
You see, after these past few weeks, the Slytherin had picked up on a few things about James. Like the way he was mischievous whenever he was with the rest of the marauders. Or the way that he is the complete opposite when they were alone. The way he'd play with the sleeves of his jumper when thinking of new pranks for the following year. Or the way he started to dance to a muggle song that played on a small radio, one that was given to him by his neighbors.
The playful, pretty boy had easily made the idiotic fool fall for him. He was selfless and at the right times, sweet and significant. He was everything Regulus could think of whenever he reads books.
Like Percy. Simon. Achilles. Mateo. Alex. Dante. Bram. And plenty of others that he couldn't think of. Every single one of these characters remind Regulus of James. So in response, he had to say.
"Sure"
So sorry that I haven't updated in awhile. My birthday is in three days so I've been trying to get ready for the party. Hope you all enjoyed the use of different characters from tons of (mostly queer) books.
Sincerely, Evan
