Remus knew what the letters had meant, seeing the quick but crestfallen look on Sirius' face. Regulus was much better at hiding his emotions, not showing anything as he pockets the letter into his cloak. He smiled softly as the two boys shared a look and went back to eating. It was nice that they had one another. So when the group got up to go to their first class of the day, he didn't say anything when the brothers split up from them and walked towards the common rooms. He sat in his first class of the day and took out a parchment, ready to take notes for both Sirius and himself. It was the least he could do really. He kept writing as the professor spoke, even when his hand started to cramp. How else was Sirius supposed to understand the material taught today?
The day went smoothly, albeit with a small shaking of his dominant hand in an attempt to save Sirius' education. Remus was happy to see Sirius in the common rooms, the two brothers have gotten food from the kitchens instead of going to the Great Hall like everyone else. He basically shoved four parchments to Sirius' chest. "One for each class, James wrote your notes Regulus. First time I saw him actually writing down notes in a writing that wasn't his chicken scrawl. Must have been wanting to let you read it'' Remus says and Sirius looks down at the papers that were given to him. "Or he was trying to impress you" Sirius looks at his brother, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively at him. "Oh shut up Siri, have fun with Remus, I'm going to go find my notes" Regulus stands up, resisting the urge to shove Remus and Sirius.
As he was leaving the common room, Sirius called out to him. "You mean James right? Off to find your James?" he says, in which Regulus flips him the bird. Remus laughs, shaking his head as he sits down on the spot that the Slytherin was previously sitting on. "You are an absolute nightmare, Sirius Black"
"And you are an absolute delight Moon Pie, thank you for the notes" Sirius responds, winking at the other boy before setting the notes onto the table in front of him. He notices Remus' shaking hand and gently grabs it, caressing the skin with his thumb. Remus could swear that his heart was beating like a drum, the sound being way too loud no doubt Sirius would hear. Whether he didn't want to say anything due to Remus' embarrassment or he didn't hear was lost on him.
"Don't mention it Pads. Read it over and tell me if you need help with the words or something, yeah?" Remus smiles at him, a small blush on his face. "Will do Moons" he smiles back at him before grabbing the papers again. He leans against the hazel-haired boy as he reads, mumbling the words. He couldn't ever read in his head, reading aloud like this just helped him process the words better. He would flip to the next page, the sound rustling through the otherwise quiet room. As he did all of this, his hand never left Remus'. Which he thought was exceedingly sweet. He saw a book on the pillows behind Sirius but he didn't question it, having seen the previously stated boy writing in it whilst he was visiting Remus during full moons. Must be a diary of sorts, meaning he would never touch it. Unless he was instigated to do otherwise. That might actually happen with the group of friends he had.
"What does this say? Your hands just decided to start writing in cursive here" Sirius laughs, pointing and the word that was troubling him. "Scintillation, Slughorn was just going over what we're going to be learning this year" Remus responds, letting his free hand drift to the other's hair, running his fingers through the soft dark strands. The boy leaning against him relaxed into his touch, continuing to read the papers.
If anyone were to just walk in, they would've been spotted. Holding hands. Basically snuggling up to one another on the couch. Remus' hand in Sirius' hair. Anyone walking in would think they were together. A dating type of together.
The idea of that scared Remus just a bit. Not the dating part, no, he definitely liked Sirius in that way. It was more of the idea of people getting the wrong idea that scared him. Cause if they got the wrong idea, what about him? What if he thinks that Sirius was doing this because he liked him back? What if he thinks wrong? What if he outright confesses and that just makes Sirius hate him?
He couldn't do that. No matter what, he didn't want Sirius hating him. The idea of that is what scares him. Remus takes his hand out of his, also pulling away from his hair. He taps Sirius' shoulder before standing up, looking almost sheepish as he looks at Sirius.
"Seems like it's time for me to go. Need to find some study material in the library, I'll see you later Sirius" he smiles, one that doesn't seem to meet his eyes. He turns around before Sirius could reply and leaves the common room, just wishing he could go back in there and stay with him. But he couldn't for Sirius' good as well as his own.
When he went to the library, Remus instantly turned back around. Cause leaning on the corner of the said library was Regulus and James. Completely out of view, unless you're a werewolf of course. Which Remus is. He saw the way James had his arms around Regulus as he sobbed into his chest. If they could do it, why couldn't he? He could keep quiet about his feelings. If he could do that with the reward of having Sirius with him, no matter what their relationship might be, what else was stopping him?
So he walked back, up the stairs and turned the sharp corners until he got back to the common room. Sirius wasn't there. He checked the dorm rooms, not pressing the panic button just yet. There he was. A downcasted look was on his face but he ignored it. What he couldn't ignore? The way Sirius' whole demeanor seemed to glow as soon as he saw that Remus had returned.
"Thought you were getting some study materials?" Sirius says, the all-knowing smirk on his face. "I have better things to study here," Remus says without thinking. He looked at the hazel-haired boy, his ears slightly reddening in color. Before he could think of what those words meant any further, Remus lay down next to Sirius, grabbing the papers from his hands. "Only on Charms? You can't do anything without me huh?" he teases, nudging the boy next to him. He snapped out of it from the nudge, shaking his head. "I always need you Moony," he says softly, looking into his eyes.Neither of them noticed just how close they were to one another. Their noses almost brushed. Just a few centimeters away. Just those few and the tension that had suddenly appeared would just go away. They were leaning in, slowly.
Until the door was slammed open, Peter walked in with a pile of books threatening to fall out of his hands. At the disruption, Remus jumped back, ultimately falling out of the bed and knocking his head on the bedside drawer. He let out a soft hiss as a hand reached up to the area he hit. Once he figured that he was fine, Remus stood up and helped Peter, this seeming to be a good way to avoid what had just happened. What had just almost happened. He takes some books from the top of the pile, setting them down on Peter's bed. Must be his stuff for NEWTs. He must want to study early on so he understands faster, which makes some sense.
With that, Remus turns back around to look at Sirius, his mouth open as if he was about to say something until he saw that he wasn't there. He had left. Was it because they had almost kissed? Holy Hufflepuffs they almost kissed. If Peter didn't walk in, would they have?
Updates?? Back-to-back?? Impressive.
