Regulus was nervous, an emotion that he did not like to feel. It always made him sweat which made him wipe his hands on his pants. And that just made him sweat even more.

James, on the other hand, was acting completely normal since the guy who he asked out was on the other side of the room. Otherwise, he would be dancing around, way too excited to be fixing up his hair. He would be getting ready in Sirius' room but he did not want to confess to his best friend that he was going on a date with his brother. Probably would not be a surprise, but James had no idea if Sirius was okay with all of that.

Sure, his opinion didn't matter but if anything were to happen later on, Sirius was the one he would have to ask permission to. Merlin James. Definitely not the thing to think of on a first date.

And now, to sneak out without Sirius noticing. That was going to be quite easy since he was talking about how motorcycles work with Mr.Potter. James went and told his mother that Regulus would be going with him to Diagon Alley, saying that the Slytherin had forgotten a potions book.

And so, when his mother agreed, the two Potters and the one Black go into the car, off to Diagon Alley. Once they get there, it was time to plan their so-called date.

"Where would you like to go, Regulus? Honeydukes? Zoko's?" James smiles at him, nudging him slightly. Regulus thought about these questions before shaking his head in a hum. "No planning, let's just have fun yeah?" he smiles and James returns it, grabbing his hand.

"I like the way you think Black" he laughs before pulling him towards the shops. He heads to the closest shop to them, it being a small cafe. Magic cafes were cool, a sight to see definitely. Most of the time, you can see floating beverages flying across the room. It was absolutely terrifying if you've never been to one before. Unfortunately, James nor Regulus had never been inside one. Until now.

The Gryffindor had to duck as soon as he walked through the door, a cup whizzing past him to reach a man next to the door. It was absolute mayhem. Cups were flying. Pastries appeared out of thin air. The tables themselves were spinning in small slow circles. No wonder no one was sitting. But, being the daring and adventurous time of people, the two boys decided to take a spot.

"I'll get us some tea, would you like a pastry?" James asks once he stood up straight, being wary of any more flying saucers. "A strawberry shortcake shall suffice, I'll get us a table." Regulus smiles at him before parting with him to grab a table. He was going to decline the offer of a pastry, but just seeing that delicious strawberry decked cake made his mouth water. He was a sucker for strawberries.

He sat down on one of the tables, almost yelping aloud when it had started to slowly spin. Of course the tables wouldn't go too fast, people needed to eat and drink after all. He watched James talk to the girl behind the counter. Holy shittake mushrooms, was that Eve? Okay cross out girl.

They seemed to have seen him as well, waving towards him, which then made James look over. Now he knew that he was friends with the strange enby. Yay!

James had gotten to the counter, smiling when he saw that the all too famous Eve behind the counter. They were nonbinary, which was basically frowned upon during this era. They were quite popular, being the only out nonbinary lesbian. Quite a crowd pleaser too.

"James Potter, is that you?" they exclaim, drumming their fingers on the counter in a sort of welcoming song. "Evan Mio, nice to see you as well. See you're still working in this quaint shop" he responds, common with the friendly banter from the enby. "Of course I am! Might own it in the future if I'm lucky" they wink at him before motioning to the menu, '' what would you like?"

"Oh right. Two teas please. Three sugars in one and two sugars in the other. And one of your strawberry shortcakes and chocolate muffins please." he smiles before getting out his small pouch that he places his galleons in.

"Either you are starving or you're with someone" they speculate before looking around, their mouth dropping when they see Regulus. Eve quickly turns their face into a smile and waves at the boy. They then look back at James and give him a suggestive grin, one much different than their smile only a second ago.

"You two are on a date right? Oh I knew this day would come." Of course they did, Evan was from the future. But that's another story for a different chapter. "You both are so cute together, guessing strawberry boy gets the cake?" they hum, pressing the items onto the cashier.

James flushes a bright red at their words, had not been expecting them to piece the puzzle so quickly. Maybe he just felt like a jumbled mess. "D-Date...yes of course! Though we aren't official or anything so don't go around flashing labels or anything" he winks before collecting the right amount and handing it to them.

"I better get all the details! And tell the strawberry boy to send me owls." they say as James hands them the jingly coins. "Well now that I've asked Black out, maybe you should go and try asking Evans out. Might be worth your while" he smirks at them before turning around and walking to where Regulus was sitting.

Now it was Evan's turn to be flustered.

But again, not the right story.

James sits down across from Regulus, smiling softly. "Guessing you saw Evan? They are as whipped with Evans as they ever were." he smiles at Regulus and he nods his head. "Yeah, they're my halfborn Ravenclaw friend who's my dealer for muggle books." he says, smiling softly. They've given him so many good reads. Things like Percy Jackson, The Song of Achilles, The Dark Tide, and not to mention the Carry On series. Evan was a great stock up.

Soon enough, two plates and cups whiz to their table. Apparently, Evan was the culprit of all of this mayhem. Seemed logical.

"So, they called you 'strawberry boy' . Is that a nickname I should pick up on?" he winks, using air quotes on the cute nickname. And let me tell you when Regulus' ears turned a shade of bright red, it was the cutest thing that James has ever seen.

"Definitely not. I may love strawberries but that nickname is absolutely horrid." he laughs, shaking his head. He picks up the spoon on his plate before taking a piece of the slice of cake and eating it. This was absolutely heavenly. Thank Merlin Evan knew how to bake.

"Well if we're going to go on a second date, we must figure out nicknames!" James spoke without thinking before his mind did a complete one eighty. "I mean if you'd like to of course" and as far as responses go, Regulus only had one.

"Let's finish this date first and I'll take your word on it." he responds cooly, even though he was absolutely melting on the inside.

In all honesty, if someone were to look at them through that window, they'd think they were friends, maybe even a couple. They wouldn't have a clue that their lives are incredibly messed up, more so for the Black boy.

Not to mention if that someone just so happened to be someone from Hogwarts. Oh the outrage. They'd know exactly who these two were and know that they come from 'enemy' houses.

And let's just say that did happen. It depended on the person. Their beliefs and following. If they were good, they'd stay out of it, letting the boys have fun. But if they were extremely bad news, they'd spread it around and make these good moments fade into a nightmare.

That is exactly what happened.

WHY IS IT SO HARD TO RIGHT 'DATE SCENES'? I MEAN I HAVE BEEN IN RELATIONSHIPS IN THE PAST BUT HAVE I GONE ON A DATE? NO. AS YOU CAN TELL BY THE TIME I'VE TAKEN WITH THIS, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING. Ooh and meet Evan, me by the way. I will be shipped with Lily of course. Partly because I think Evan Evans is hilarious and so adorable at the same time. Hope you enjoyed whatever this was lol. See yall when I post next, which I promise will be almost just as chaotic.
