~Mikasa's POV~

"Ow." I murmured, as if I wasn't in a moment of pain, which I was. I'd stepped on a (Lego) piece of gravel or some sort of rock accidently. It was well past midnight, the guards weren't there.

No one was in sight nor in sound, the candle from the lantern was beginning to flicker and the wick was building up. I couldn't really identify the smell, but it reminded me somehow of freshly reaped land. My legs hung over the edge of the bed and I was sitting up well on my own, that pill and meal sure did help.

"Hmm" I took the keys off from around my neck and held then in my palm, I just stared at them: wondering if I should really do this. Who cares, they probably already know you're with him. So what would it matter now? I sighed, not sure what exactly I'm feeling at the moment, and swung myself onto the cols ground once more.

"Ow." A piece of gravel spiked into my soft feet and broke skin, I took it out and tossed the bloody thing away.

I'm coming Bertholdt, don't worry. I got on my shoes by the door and combed my hair with my fingers.

"Okay. Okay Mikasa, you can do this" I kept repeating hesitantly to myself. Nonetheless, I somehow convinced myself to go through with all of this. "It's okay, it'll be fine." I said lowly to myself, barely breathing. I fumbled to get the keys off from around my neck, and adjusted my hair back. I tried the first, and then the second one which worked perfectly. I looked discreetly left, right, and ahead. Then back into my cell, to check if I left anything behind, my red scarf. I took it and swiftly ushered myself down the dim, bleak corridor. The light continuously flickered, sometimes I thought it'd go out and then I'd be lost forever. As long as it stays there, my life will be fine. Once I reached the checkpoint, I checked to see if the door on the heavy wooden door would opened, and it did. It creaked loudly and the hinges felt as if they could fall off and leave the door to crush me this instant. I broke a sweat midway closing the door, I'm not sure how much time I have. My face rushed red and I felt a rough hand grab my arm, and they put their hand harshly over my mouth. The wooden door shut closed and I couldn't see the light anymore.

I shut my eyes praying that it was over, but I felt them not letting go once they fully had me. I opened my eyes and jabbed my elbow into their abdominals, crushed their toes with the heel of my foot, turned around and kicked them onto the floor.

"Stop!-Mika-Mi-" Their voice became familiar to me. Was it-was it Eren!?

"Eh-Eren?" I heaved towards his darkened figure and felt his face, making sure it was who I thought it was.

"Yes." He exhaled in relief. On cue, I drew him to me and hugged him. I've never missed anyone so much this moment. I began to sob on his shoulder and he didn't seem to mind, and rubbed my back.

"Mikasa?" He whispered hoarsely.

"Hm?" I asked, not daring to let go.

"We don't have much time."

"Right." I whispered, and slowly let go.

"Well, I know what's going on-just please don't speak until I finish. Just hear me out."

I nodded in compliance as I wiped the left over tears streaming on my hot cheeks and sniffled into my sleeve. My eyes began to adjust and I could make the outline of his face in the pitch black darkness.

"Well we get it, Hanji, Erwin, Levi, and myself as well-the interior doesn't-we have an escape plan. However, it would require you and Bertholdt to never come back." He paused and looked down. My eyebrows furrowed and my eyes and mind were racing, trying to read him. "Ever. Not ever. That includes not being able to see us . . . don't object, please Mikasa this is the only way for you and him to get out of this alive!"
