Kylo's eyes grew slightly, the shock settling in his features in a way that distantly reminded Rey of the way he looked at Luke when he woke up with a bright lightsaber shimmering above him. "You'll do it?"
"Yes, I will." Rey said again.
He cleared his throat and nodded. "Alright then. After dinner, I'll show you to your quarters. Tomorrow, I'll introduce you to the ship and prepare a contract allowing and promising your stay here. There will be a short period of time as you ease into the First Order living style and the people you'll have to encounter. I'm afraid none of my officers would be pleased to see you without a solid explanation."
"I understand that. The Resistance probably wouldn't be pleased either." She casually replied.
"Exactly. Now, we cannot mention our bond to anyone. I have a story prepared to tell the officers tomorrow morning, before I show you the ship, on why you're here. Do not stray from the story, it's dangerous enough for us to be working together or a year, let alone let everyone in the galaxy know of this connection we share." Kylo stated, moving his head along with his words. Rey wondered quietly if he always moved his head so much when he spoke, as if the words were spilling out and his lips were just trying to catch them.
"Obviously, I'm not stupid." She retorted, scoffing slightly and leaning back against her chair. "Do you explain all of the details when you're commanding soldiers?"
"You would be surprised by how many mindless idiots with no common sense join the First Order." He dryly replied.
"It's always the idiots that fall for inaccurate propaganda." Rey countered.
"And the ones who dedicate their lives to a fruitless cause. Speaking of which, how is the Resistance doing?" Kylo shot back. Her mouth dropped a little in surprise.
"For your information, it's flourishing. I'm not sure I can say the same for the First Order." She snapped back.
"We'll see, I just acquired a new tool that might help us continue our growth." His eyes scanned her up and down, taking his time to draw out the staring process, emphasizing his point. Rey's lips flattened out in a thin line.
A steady silence beat through the room, engaging both Rey and Kylo into an unspoken staring match, as if to test their power. His stubbornness was getting on her last nerve, making her want to destroy him with what power she had. He had an intense glare and after only a couple of moments, she had to force herself to look away.
"Are you done with your dinner or not? I need to see my room before night if I plan to sleep at all." She said snarkily, feed up with the direction of the evening. Banter between two equally stubborn people always resulted in frustration.
His eyes traveled to his plate, still half full of food. "I'm fine. Let's go look at your quarters."
Kylo Ren stood up and began to walk towards the big black double doors.
"You left half your plate!" Rey stated in shock, extending her hand to point at it.
"Yes. And?" He drawled.
"You can't just leave half a plate of unfinished food on the table." She said.
"Why not? It's my quarters, I can do as I please." He countered. "Plus, you do not even know what I was going to do with that food. I could have been saving it for later or for lunch tomorrow. I could have been planning to give it to the hungry."
"Were you going to do either of those things?" She asked, her eyebrow arching up.
He stared blankly at her. "No. But I could have, had you not pointed it out."
