It was 2 in the morning when you woke up yet again from another nightmare. The light from the moon barely illuminated the room but you were still able to make out some shapes of furniture along the walls.

You were tired of waking up multiple times a night and all because of that damn case you had worked a few weeks ago. Two teenage girls had lost their lives because you didn't save them in time from the unsub. Everyone on the teem took it hard but it was your fault not theirs. If only you hadn't told everyone to check out another location first they would most likely still be alive, it was all your fault.

You had these nightmares every single night causing you to wake up drenched in sweat each time. Some days you just stayed up all night to avoid it all together and then when you had to go into work you would just drink some coffee and pretend you were okay the whole day despite not sleeping. You couldn't fool everyone though especially not your girlfriend, Emily. She had sensed something was wrong ever since that day but because you didn't live together which made it much easier for you to hide what was really going by making up excuses but not today.

Emily was staying over at your apartment so you prayed that she wouldn't find out your secret. You had tried to make up an excuse to why she couldn't stay over but in the end you gave in but now you were really regretting it. You quietly reach for your phone and check the time

3.30 am

"y/n?" You heard a voice whisper. Fuck, you must've accidentally woken her up. You felt her hugging you from behind "why aren't you sleeping?" She asks. You didn't want her to know about your sleeping problems, you didn't want anyone to know.

"m' not tired" you mumble.

"That's impossible, it's 2 am. y/n/n what's going on?" She asks again. You really were a terrible liar she always knew when something was wrong.

You felt your eyes start to water and you bit the inside of your cheek to not make any noise because you didn't want to worry her even more but she had other ideas. You felt her rolling you over so you were facing her and your eyes closed before she could see them.

"Go back to sleep Em, I'm fine" you told her but she was just as stubborn as you if not more.

"No, not until you tell me why you've been acting weird for weeks and not sleeping apparently" she continues.
