Too focused on your angered mind, you had neglected to notice the faint signs of recognition on Hanako's face as you stared at him with the same kind of hate you had targeted at him decades ago. To him, your stare had felt familiar- too familiar. The thought alarmed him, nevertheless, he wouldn't allow his emotions to show.
He had never been one to wear his emotions on his sleeve, anyway.

"Hey, Tsuki-chan," Nene started, eyes cast ahead, hands clutching at the strap of her bag. The two of you were currently making your way home from school- well, Nene was making her way to her home, you were just tagging along. You hummed in acknowledgment, casting your eyes upwards to take in her expression. She was somewhat stern, a familiar glint of curiosity lingering in your eyes.

"Have you heard of the Misaki stairs?"

Her question caught you a little off guard, causing you to almost pause walking. "The Misaki stairs?" you echoed with a questioning tone, to which she nodded, glancing at you briefly. "I don't believe I'm familiar with that," you replied honestly, a sense of carefulness dancing upon your tongue. The word felt familiar. The Misaki stairs. Alas, your memory remained stubbornly hazy.

"Aoi-chan told me of a new rumour, the Misaki stairs. She said that you must never set foot on the fourth step or you will be taken to the other side," Nene shuddered as she recalled the rumour. You noted that she had started fiddling with the strap of her bag in an anxious manner. "W-will you be able to protect me if I ever end up accidentally stepping on the fourth step?!" Nene asked in a frantic manner, her magenta eyes seconds away from tearing up. She appeared to be truly frightened of this rumour. You couldn't blame her.

A softness overtook your otherwise calm and neutral expression, your eyes gently gazing into Nene's own. A small smile played at your lips. "What, do you think I'm that bad at my job? Of course I'll protect you," you exhaled, replying in a lightharted manner to lighten the mood.

Nene's lips wavered into a shaky smile, a flicker of relief washing into the magenta ocean of her eyes. "I'm so lucky to have you, Tsuki-chan," Nene sighed, sounding genuinely happy. You felt an odd feeling in your chest. For the first time in ages you felt warmth in your cold dead body.

"Huh? What happened to the plants that were here yesterday?!" Nene whined in distress, gazing immutably at the windowsill that was indeed void of any plants. You quirked a brow at her statement, wondering why she was so worried about some plants.

"Did someone throw them away? No way!" Nene raked her brain for answers, looking around the room in a panicy state until her eyes settled on a pair of Mokke.

"Was it you?" She challenged, glaring at the Mokke determinedly. Upon finding nothing suspicious of the Mokke, Nene turned her attention to the rest of the classroom, noticing the absence of Aoi's desk in the process. You stared at her with mild amusement from your spot on her desk, your tail swaying from side to side in a calm manner.
