"Y-yeah. See ya, Hanako-kun," her words came out strained and unsure, yet she didn't resist when you started walking through the now open gate. You noted how her fingers curled ever so slightly as Hanako's hand slipped from her wrist, as if she made a desperate attempt to reach out to him yet knew it would be best not to.

As the two of you walked you cast one last glance towards Hanako. Eyes meeting in a mutual agreement that whilst you had won this battle, the war was far from over.

-------------------------------------------------

"Honestly I don't understand what you could possibly gain from this," you drawled.

"I wan't to know him better!" The blonde beside you exclaimed with determination. Your floating form danced around her lazily like smoke, the crease between your eyebrows deepening at what you heard. Her pursed lips and slightly tinted cheeks making it impossible to not roll your eyes.

"Barely worth the trouble," you scoffed. "He's not that interesting, trust me."

Having found yourself at the school library would've ignited your hopes for Nene's determination to learn more if the subject of her curiosity hadn't been, unfortunately enough, the ghostly menace known as Hanako. Although it was hard not to relish a little bit in the fact that no accurate record of the apparition existed, suggested by the pile of discarded books at Nene's desk. Most of them didn't offer anything new; stuff you already knew, and others were filled to the brim with just blatant misinformation.

"Just- please check again?" Nene's pleading pout made you grumble with reluctant acceptance. You had already made the trip to the bookshelves several times already, thus your hopes remained low. Non-existent, even. You muttered quietly to yourself, orb lazily strolling through the wooden shelves filled to the brim with colors of plenty. Your shoulder slumped as you read the names of books you had already read way too many times, soothing your irritation by voicing the titles in your head with a mocking tone. You were doing this to make her happy, regardless of the irritation you felt at the idea that she'd be happy to learn more about him.

A yelp, a groan and a crash made your bored eyes lit up with alarm. That was definitely Nene. Having heard her yelps and screeches much too many times whenever she was being the adorable klutz she was, you recognized her voice in an instant.

You rushed to the scene with eyes that had fallen wide with a cocktail of shock and surprise. An ember of familiarity licking at your brain as your finger twitched with slight agitation.

"W-what do you think you're doing? No running in the library- Ah!" The male drawled before yelping with surprise as the blonde girl rushed past him, magenta eyes obviously in search of something. You glanced down at the mess left behind, books and papers scattered on the neat floors alongside the lanky male who was busy fixing the round spectacles on his face. Disregarding him for now, you rushed to the blonde's side, peering at the empty staircase from behind her shoulder with a puzzled look.

"Sh-she's gone." A whisper floated off her lips in a breathy manner, falling silent on all ears except for yours due to the close proximity.

"What are you talking about? Did something happen?" You took on a slightly stern tone, a mother hen kind of attitude radiating off your ghostly form.
