We pulled into the parking area at the theatre. There were a ton of cars there with people all dressed up walking around. We got out of the car and walked into the large theatre where we encountered a somewhat short line in front of a man collecting tickets. We walked to the end of the line, and Nate pulled out two pristine tickets from his coat pocket. We waited in line for a couple of minutes until we were eventually at the front and Nate handed the man the tickets and let us through.
I felt a familiar thrill of excitement when we walked into the main entrance where there was a bustling crowd of fancy people chatting and waiting to see the show. I've been to the ballet so many times throughout my life that I've lost count. But every time I go I get just as excited. Of course, I love performing ballet but watching it reminds me why I love it so much. Ballet is a form of art that take so much time, strength, and effort and into each performance. So when I get the chance to sit back and watch it, I can really appreciate everything it takes to perform it and make it look so easy.
Nate and I walk through the room where people are lounging until the show starts and go into the actual theatre.
"What are our seats?" I ask Nate.
"2 and 3C," he says.
We walk through all of the seats up to the third row. We are right on the end except for one extra seat on the very end that probably won't get sold because it's just an extra. There's a man, probably in his early 30's, next to our inside seat. I was about to go into the seat next to the man, but Nate insisted that he sit there and I sit at the seat on the outside. I'm not sure why it mattered so much to him where either of us sat, but I figured it was best not to question it.
"These are really good seats!" I say to Nate.
He just smiled back.
That's something I've noticed about Nate, he never really has much to say. Unless you ask him an in-depth question, his responses are always very short and minimal. I don't really mind it though.
"Have you ever been to a ballet before?" I ask.
"No, this isn't really my scene," he says. But he wasn't rude about it like he didn't want to be here. He was just kind of taking it all in.
We talked a little bit while we were waiting for it to start. In about 15 minutes the lights flickered on and off, indicating that the show is about to start, and then they eventually dimmed and turned off completely. The curtains opened to reveal one single ballerina (Belle) on the stage. She started dancing immediately once the music started.
She was such a beautiful dancer. You could tell she's had a lot of training and dedicated a lot to the art.
This particular show is only about an hour-long counting the intermission. Which is part two of the reason I was so happy he picked Beauty and the Beast. Since it's not very long I figured Nate wouldn't mind it as much. I don't want him to get bored. He never said he hates ballet, but I'm just going to assume that someone like him doesn't watch ballet during his free time.
Before I know it the first part is wrapping up, the curtains are closing, and the lights turn on meaning it's an intermission.
Nate looks at me to see my reaction, but I'm more curious to see his.
"So what did you think of it?" I ask him.
"Well, I'm not much of a ballet guy, but I think the dancers are all pretty good," He says.
"Yeah, they're all doing a really good job," I say.
"So, are you bored to death yet?" I laugh.
"No, it's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Granted I don't really know what's going on most of the time as far as the story goes, but the dancing is good," he chuckles.
