FOUR
Lucas's POV
"Sir, we have an overseas client who wants to talk to you."
"Who is it?"
"Mr Jadeja from India. He wants to talk about collaboration on their resorts there."
"Connect the call to me and prepare a file on him while I am on the phone with him."
I picked up the office phone as my secretary transferred the call to me. "Hello Mr Jadeja, Lucas Rivera of Rivera Industries speaking."
"Honoured to talk to you, Mr Rivera. I heard you were expanding your hotel chain to Asia, so I wanted to propose a collaboration."
"You would have to be more specific about the details." I took a pen and a spare sheet of paper to note down whatever he was going to say. His Mahaavi hotel chain was very famous in the Indian subcontinent and one of the companies I was hoping to speak with. The call from his side was like a dream come true.
"Mahaavi has a stronghold in the tourist industry here. Though we are mainly known for our exquisite resorts, we also provide full tourist packages. For you to start from scratch in India, it would take a lot of time and competition as the Rivera name is not well known here. So I have a deal, for existing Mahaavi resorts, you can help in giving them a makeover and some facilities that we do not provide as of now. In that, you will get a small share of the profits, details which we can discuss later. For new resorts and hotel chains, we can do a fifty-fifty ratio."
Twirling the pen between my fingers, I thought of his idea. It was highly profitable and deals with Mahaavi were always transparent and honest so there was not a chance of fraud.
"I like your proposal, Mr Jadeja, but I cannot make a deal on the phone without seeing the quality of your resorts myself. No offence to you, but I need to see personally where I am investing my money."
"None was taken, Mr Rivera. I would do the same if I was in your place. Though our headquarters are in Mumbai, my wife Shivani and I are staying in Goa at the moment. My younger son's wife is pregnant with their second child and is living with her parents for a while. We decided to stay here to support her because our son cannot be here."
"Cannot be here?" I knew that Indian girls sometimes stayed with their parents during their pregnancy but that didn't explain the absence of her husband. Maybe he was an asshole.
"He is in the army and currently on undercover duty so we do not know where he is." I felt sheepish hearing this for making assumptions even though I have not voiced them aloud.
