Naru paced back and forth beside clinic bed as Ayako check on the unconscious Mai lying on top. He regretted ordering Lin just to corner Mai a while ago. If he did not do that stunt, then she wouldn't ran away and be caught up in this mess. When he saw her lying in a room gas-filled with formalin, Naru almost lost his sanity. He just want to talk to Mai about what he said during their 'date' but it ended this way. He blamed himself for being impatient.
"She's okay. Her wound reopened and her shoulder dislocation was a bit stretched but overall she's alright. She'll wake up after some rest. But you boys have to get out first. She was exposed to formalin so I need to wipe her body to get rid of the remnants." Ayako said while pushing them out of the infirmary.
Bou-san, Yasu, Masako and John gazed at Naru as their young boss placed his first under his chin. He is clearly worried about the brunette but he's trying to hide it all away by remaining expressionless. But that poker face was completely failed as they watched how he anxiously paced back and forth.
"I'm going to the base to watch the footage with Lin." Naru stated and walk away.
Masako gritted her teeth as she watch Naru's retreating back. She saw how worried he was for Mai and her heart couldn't take the jealousy. She had been watching them for weeks now and she knew Naru's special affection for Mai. An affection that she couldn't even feel despite knowing Naru's true identity. She asked herself what is wrong for him to not like her. She is more reserved and beautiful than Mai.
'Many idolized her looks and status so why does he not like her?'
Masako blackmailed him and made him go on dates with her but these stunts never worked on the guy. Naru never look at him with affectionate gazes and even say goodnight or good morning to her. He wouldn't not even take initiative to hold her hands! Masako clenched her hands and chased after Naru.
"Naru!"
Naru was just opening the door of the base when Masako called him. Naru emotionlessly look at the panting doll-like girl dressed in blue kimono. Naru knew the girl's feeling for him and he had rejected it from day one. Nonetheless the girl did not took his words seriously and even blackmailed him. Naru don't really like this girl but he respect her for her abilities.
She's a girl so he couldn't really cruelly reject her but Naru couldn't mess up and give her any ideas. It has been weeks but the medium is still persistent. Masako is looking at him with tears hanging at the corners of her eyes but he couldn't afford to show her gentleness now. If he wanted to fix this mess, he had to stop their silly charade.
Masako is feeling so much pain right now. This is what they call heartbreak. Masako forced her tears not to fall as she look straight to Naru's blue eyes. She inhaled deeply and opened her mouth.
"Is it her?" Masako asked despite knowing the answer by just looking at his eyes. The truth is right in front of her but she still can't accept it. She need him to say it out loud.
"Is it because of her that you cannot be with me? That you can't give me a bit of your affection?" Masako asked as crystal beads flowed from her eyes.
Naru flinched at the sight. He never wanted to see her cry because of him. He is feeling very guilty but he knew it can cause problem if he comfort her now. Naru look at her with his usual expressionless stare as he hid his clenched fists behind him. He bit the side of his cheeks and nodded at the girl.
