amends

Summary: Since Tony died, Peter became a real mess and Bucky couldn't fulfill his amends so he did one thing.

(A/N: Affiliated with Avenger:Endgame, post-Endgame timeline. I suggest you skip if it'll break your heart like I do but I did it anyways. Might be a short chapter.)

"Hey, Mr. Stark." Peter crouch down in front of Tony and held his hand. "Can you hear me? Its Peter." He was on the verge of breakdown when he saw Tony's burned face. His shaky voice couldn't help to hold the dam of tears from his eyes. "We won, Mr. Stark. We won, you did it, sir, you did it." He couldn't help but to cry in front of his dying mentor. 

Pepper tried to calm Peter down, who seems like a crying mess. She pulled him away but he was holding onto Tony, hoping for him to be alive. "I'm sorry, Tony." He look at Tony's face one last time, then he hung his head low.

Bucky from the distance saw what's happening. He saw Peter was holding onto Tony, while crying a mess. The memories of him killing Tony's parents were still fresh in the back of his mind. The way he punched Howard's face and choke Maria without any mercy. The fact that he didn't have a proper chance to ask Tony for forgiveness makes it worse. Maybe that's how Tony felt when he found out his parents died, just like Peter.

// present days. three weeks after the battle. //

Peter couldn't stop grieving for his mentor who saved the universe. The Titan incident was coming to him again.

"Mr. Stark?" Peter felt his Spidey-Sense spiking. Tony turn around and saw Peter who's hands is dusting. "I don't feel so good." He look at his hands, who seems a bit weird.

"You're alright." Tony tried to convinced the kid and himself. "I-I don't know what's happening." He stumbled forward Tony but he was there to catch him. Tony was shocked looking at Peter, the person that he hoped to not getting dusted away will be soon disintegrated. "I don't wanna go, sir, please- I don't wanna go!" Peter's voice become shaky as he felt terrified.

Tony knew there's nothing he could do about it. He lay him down on the ground and take a look at his scared face. "I'm sorry." Was his last word before he turned to dust.

That incident was fresh in his mind, as if it happened yesterday. He heard a slight knock coming from the window but he just ignored it. The second time it appeared, the window was opened, revealing a guy wearing a black jacket with a right black leather gloves. "Mind if I come in?"

Peter shot himself up straight after seeing the Winter Soldier in his room. "Sorry Mr. Barnes, I didn't know you were the one who's knocking. I thought it was just a bird."

"Its alright kid. Anyways, your room is so dark, is the electricity out?"

Peter shook his head. "Then what happened?"

"Nothing happened." His face fell down. Bucky knew what Peter's facing. "Can I take a seat?"

"Sure, just pick any seat." 

Bucky sit in front of Peter's computer while facing him. "You wanna tell me what's going on?"

Peter just stay silent as he stay on the bed. "Come on, you can't stay like this. Sooner or later you will have to face it."

"I know... I just can't. I really can't do anything right now."

Bucky pull the chair closer to the bed, facing Peter. "I know that Tony was like a father to you. Even though he's your superhero mentor, but I can see how close you are with him. I saw his face when he hugged you."

Peter start crying when Bucky mentioned about how Tony was like a father to him. "Come here." Bucky open his arms wide, letting Peter fall into his embrace. "Its alright. I know how hard it is."

"I wonder if this is how he felt." Bucky felt confused when Peter said it like that. 

"Before I disintegrate, I apologized to Tony because once he said to me that if I died, it'll feel like its on him. Before Tony died, I apologized to him because I felt like its my fault that he couldn't make it." He sobbed. Bucky felt a little worse for the kid but he just keep stroking his back.

"I'm sure Tony don't want you to feel like that. It was never your fault that he died. He chose his decisions that he wanted to sacrifice himself to save the universe. Tony did this so Pepper, Morgan, you and everyone else could live. When he finally have you back, that's when he realized that he wants you to keep living your life like how he did five years ago."

Peter just keep sobbing. "Maybe if I were good enough, fast enough to reach the van, he wouldn't have to die."

"Come on, don't say it like that. Tony knows what he's doing." He just tighten his hugs. "You know, Hydra once ordered me to kill Tony's parents. I still remember how I punched Howard and made Maria suffocated. After Tony found out about it, he tried to kill me. Everything is still a fresh wound to me."

"You killed Tony's parents?" Peter asked for reassurance. "Yeah. My mind was being controlled so I have no choice. The worst part of my regret is that I didn't get to apologize to Tony."

Peter wrap his arms around Bucky's body, making him calm down. "Mr. Barnes, you were controlled by Hydra and you couldn't stop it. I know that Tony is a tough guy, but I'm sure he understand about it."

"Same goes to you, Spider-Boy. You couldn't stop Tony from snapping his finger. One day, you'll understand the reason he build the time machine and all. That's what Tony wanted."

Peter look at Bucky with his arms still wrapping around him. "I don't know, everything is hard. I rarely go to school anymore, I don't even go out. His death just affected me so bad."

Bucky pulled away and out Peter on the bed. "How about this, we make a deal. I help you and you help me and together, our life might have a huge change."

Peter cringed his face. "Just that?"

"It sounds easy, but we both will be able to make amends, right?"

Peter stare at Bucky while debating the whole deal in his mind. "Deal."

"Great, now get up. You should go out and look at the sunshine." Bucky left the room and saw Peter's aunt standing in front of the door.

"Who are you?"

"Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes, also known as Bucky." He shook his hand with May. "How did you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Peter was still grieving about Tony and when you came, he just get up and take a shower. How did you do it?"

Bucky close the door behind him and lead May into the kitchen. "All we need in this life is someone who's willing understand us. That way, we will be able to stand up and rise again. Peter needed someone to understand about Tony so I talked it out with him."

May just smiled. "Thank you for being there for him. I owe you. I can't even console him like that."

"Its no problem, Mrs. Parker. Understanding someone is better than  locking it up." He smiled. Peter's room open wide, revealing a fresh version of himself.

"I'm ready, Mr. Barnes."

Bucky dismissed himself from the conversation and went to Peter. "Lets change our life to a better one so Tony won't feel like he did it for nothing." He smiled.
