As they walked through St Mungos, it gave off an odd, comforting feeling. Harry was seeming a little better, but he rubbed his glossy eyes and put his head on Remus' shoulder."Hey, you," Remus gently tapped the top of Harry's head. "don't fall asleep."
"Why not?" Sirius looked confused.
"He could have a concussion."
"Right." He responded, looking down.
Harry lifted up his head groggyly and blinked. Sirius swung his arm and dragged Remus' along with it playfully as they walked up to the counter.
"Hello, how can i help you?" The woman smacked the gum in her mouth, staring at the chart in front of her.
"My godson, he-" Remus started
"Fell of the couch-"
"A bludger hit him in the head"
Remus turned his head to look at Sirius.
"What? what was i supposed to say?" he said hushed.
The woman finally looked up at the three of them and tilted her head.
"Alright," she paused "shouldn't be that long of a wait." She said as she handed them a chart.
"Thank you." Remus smiled and sat down.
"I hope we can get him in soon enough." Sirius looked down. He almost looked so hopeless it was nauseating.
"It's probably just a concussion." Remus ruffled Sirius' hair gently, using his other hand to hold up Harry.
"It's my fault. I shouldn't of brought out the Quidditch kit." He said softly.
Remus had some kind of inferior feeling to Sirius. He knew he couldn't be much help.
"He's gonna be a quidditch star, like James."
As long as it had been since James and Lily died, using James's name in past tense still stung, and felt weird rolling off his tongue.
Sirius nodded and held his arms out, gesturing for Harry. Remus handed him over as Harry quietly babbled.
About ten minutes later, one of the nurses finally walked out and called Harry's name. As the nurse open the door, Remus watched the her in her sickening green uniform robes. It really was a grotesque color. He almost felt bad for them.
Him and Sirius walked into the back room and sat down in a couple of the chairs off to the side. Sirius completely avoided the patient chair.
Remus' eyes went to the chair, then flickered back to Sirius in confusion.
"I don't like those chairs. They make me feel sick." Sirius cringed.
"Well, usually when you're in here, you are." Smiling, Remus hopped up on the patient bed. He got what Sirius was saying. the crinkle of the paper as you made even the slightest movement was only the least bit unsettling. but before Remus could think on it more, the nurse with the sickly green outfit came in and looked at him.
"Hi. what's the problem here?"
"My son- our? our god- son" Sirius tripped over his words.
"Our Godson fell off the couch. I think it might be a concussion." The words rolled smoothly off his tongue.
Sirius was nervous people would judge him, or get him wrong. As much as his ego normally hit you in the face with a brick, he knew Sirius got nervous, speaking on new information, especially at doctors offices.
"Alright," the young woman started with the slightest twang of confusion. Barely noticeable, but there nonetheless.
The woman grabbed a small light and flashed it over Harry's eyes, then wrapped her hands gently in an "O" shape around his head. After a few more tests, the woman smiled, backed away, and clapped her hands together and folded them.
"He has a minor concussion. Just rest and minimal light will do the trick. You can take him home today."
Sirius sighed and looked down, a stream of relief almost visible was rushing out of Remus.
The both of them thanked the kind nurse and walked out of the hospital doors.
"Apparition, now that i think about it, isn't the best way to get a sick child somewhere." Sirius laughed and held harry closer.
A memory struck Remus. Watching Sirius in tears, sprinting down the stairs, holding harry much the same way.
"What the hell happened?!"
"I don't know..."
"Are they?..."
"Gone."
He wondered when memories like those would stop. when they would stop playing in his mind on repeat, making sound around him drown out. making it seem like nothing matters-
"Moony?"
His hearing regained, the memory drowning out.
"Moon-ee?"
Harry's voice brought Remus back. He smiled as him and harry held eye contact.
"Moony! That's right!"
