"So, what do you want to eat? Or do you fancy a beer?" I asked Shiki, leading her to the middle of the party.
"Nope, I am good." Shiki shook her head. She seemed standoffish. Maybe something was up, who knows?
She was wearing a grey outfit that was adding to her gloomy appearance. She looked tired, as if she had been trying to smile without really wanting to. It didn't suit her, and her radiant features.
"Hey, is everything okay?" I asked, placing a gentle hand on her back.
"Uhm, yeah. I guess." She laughed nervously. "Go attend to other guests, Louis."
"Alright, but don't you go anywhere."
I proceeded to meet and greet other guests. Loads of birthday wishes, hugs, and lies later, I was tired. This party was painfully formal, so not my type. I liked parties with a lot of noise and beer. Like the ones from my formative years. Time had changed. Tonight, there was a scarcity of familiar and fun-loving people, and plenty of people in business suits. I scrunched my nose up as a smell of strong cologne entered my nose, probably oozing off one of the tycoons.
Tired of fake smiles, I returned to Shiki. She was still where I had left her, lost in thought.
"Hello, I'm back!" I announced.
"Quite an impressive guest list you have." She remarked jokingly.
"I know. But tonight, you are perhaps my most special guest." I did some preliminary flirting. Not that I was good at it.
"Really? Well, I am honoured." She smirked.
I knew she was getting bored. I mean, only a non-human would enjoy here. Damn Paul, maybe he was the one who forced the lads to involve these-what did he call them?
Oh yeah, beneficiaries.
The party was subdued due to their presence. No music. No cheering. I took a decision in a split second.
"Wanna get outta here?" I was feeling really brave all of sudden.
"Do you?" Shiki looked startled but excited.
"Lets go." I plonked the soft drink I had been sipping down onto a nearby table and rushed up to Niall to inform him. He winked at me and patted me on the back, and then we were out of there.
I ran to my car and held the door open for Shiki, who had been following me around and she hopped in. I banged the door shut, threw myself in the driver's, and took off.
"So, Shiki? Now that our lives are saved by superman, tell me about yourself. Starting from your name." I grinned, pulling onto the road.
"Well, my name's not really Shiki. It something else, and I am not telling you that. Nor am I telling you where I am from." She looked at the window, grinning slightly.
"Right. So what are you going to tell me?"
"About my family? Mom, dad, twelve year old brother." He brows furrowed slightly when she mentioned her brother.
"Oh, does your brother study?" Goodness, what the hell am I asking her?
"Oh, yeah. He does." She was silent for a moment. "Its really cold out here, good thing I am wearing warms."
"Yeah, christmas time."
So, all I knew till now about her, was that she had a brother who studied. I wanted to ask her more, but judging by the way she changed the topic, it wasn't something she would open up about yet. I didn't want to piss her off, and I was trying to make a good first impression. Well, second.
God Louis, selfish enough?
We rode in silence, occasionally speaking up about the weather, or the band. We made small talk, all the while me trying to figure out whether I should take her to our secret hangout.
It was a place Harry and I had found in our x-factor days, and we still visited it. Mostly me, alone, whenever I needed a clear head.
I decided to take her there. She looked like she could use the solace that place provided. I didn't know how exactly she was feeling, but atleast I could try.
*Shiki's P.O.V*
"Oh yeah, he does." My mood flipped. Did he have to ask me that? Quick change'o topic. "Its really cold out here. Good thing I am wearing warms."
"Yeah, christmas time." Louis replied quitely.
He looked at me once, then went back to focusing on the road. I could see he was contemplating something, but he decided against it. Probably wonder he should poke me more about Leo or not.
As much as I wanted to divert my mind, I couldn't help but admire my luck. Louis Tomlinson was taking me out on a long drive but I couldn't enjoy it. Leo lurked in the back of my mind, and fear for him held me back from having the time of my life. Had these been normal times, my emotions would have been going haywire. But right now, I felt anything but.
Shaking my head at myself in self pity, I looked at Louis. He had his window down, with one elbow propped on it. He wasn't really making any effort, but his face held the features of a child who wanted to enjoy himself, but was controlling it for the fear of his elders. It occured to me that he had a wild side, that he kept in check.
"Here we are." Louis announced suddenly, breaking my train of thought.
I stepped out of the car, breathing in fresh air. We were in an isloated garden of sorts, but was covered with a light shower of snow. With the flowers, it looked as if someone had sprinkled icing sugar along with cake decorations on a green cake.
"Like it?" Said Louis, rubbing his nose.
"Yeah." This place made me..comfortable. a feeling of calm washed over me, and I began breathing easily.
Louis grinned. "Come on."
He lead me down a jogging path, towards a bench. He swept off some leaves that had fallen on it, and we sat on it.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"Nope." I replied.
Life was a roller coaster, wasn't it?
