Christabel's POV"Oh, why do people have to think so much at these assemblies?" I thought to myself as I attempted to push everyone else's thoughts out of my head. It was all too loud and I needed to get out of here before my head exploded. I turned around to let Charis know I was going to take a breather when I saw her hands pressed to her ears, yelling for something to stop.
I've gone through way too many of these kinds of situations to know what she was experiencing. Flashbacks... The return of a faded memory... Just then, Chase jumped off the stage and sped to her side, scooping her up into his arms, ready to make a run for the medical bay. However, I knew immediately that the nurses wouldn't be of much help in this situation and a more rational choice would be to bring Charis back to our dorm for me to help her. I stopped Chase in his tracks and explained the situation to him. The best way out would have been to teleport, but it was too packed for me to concentrate my energy. I looked in all directions, desperate to find a way out of the frenzied crowd to an open space, quiet enough for me to teleport us. Suddenly, streaks of purple magic danced across the crowd to meet the ground below us. A barrier rose above the ground to cover Chase, Charis, and I and all went silent. Clara's sound barrier... blocks out all other sounds and thoughts, brilliant! I glanced at Clara, full of gratitude, before bringing the three of us back to the dorm.
Chase was clearly flustered when he gently laid Charis on her bed. She was out cold, the torment of her flashbacks evidently haunting her as she gritted her teeth, hands shaking. I took a deep breath and summoned whatever strength I had left, placing my hand over her head. A silver glow formed around my palm and entered her mind as the pained expression on her face gradually faded away.
"She'll wake up soon," I told Chase weakly as I tried to stand up.
"Thanks, Christabel, go have a rest. My sister will probably be here in a while to help out. I'll stay with Charis till she arrives."
I nodded and left, head still woozy from the energy exertion earlier.
I woke up to soft mellow music playing in the background. I didn't even have to get up to know who was in the house.
"She really took a toll on you huh?" My best friend's familiar voice said from across the room, eyes wide at the state my room was in.
"I used most of my energy on teleportation today." I shrugged as she passed me a cup of warm green tea.
Clara snickered at my response as she asked me about the situation.
"So your roommate, princess of air and water, is Chase's long-lost childhood bestie, and...she lost her memory?"
"Pretty much. Let's just wait for her to wake up and get her settled into the school first. In the meantime, I think we should let Chase know to give her some space. I know he's worried and all but seeing that he's probably the cause of her flashbacks, it'll be better for him to keep out of her sight until we figure it all out."
"Yeah, I get it. I'll let him know when I get home."
"Alright then, don't you have to get back to the orientation ceremony downstairs? I'll take over from here. Wouldn't want you to miss the fun right?" I teased as she rolled her eyes begrudgingly.
I've known her long enough to know that she wasn't the most comfortable in these kinds of events. We used to escape from ceremonies like these as kids but always ended up being caught by one of her brothers when she lost control of her telepathy and accidentally leaked information about our great escape. Miss Purple Hair sighed and stuck her tongue out at me playfully before waving goodbye and flying off.
Shortly after she left, I peeled myself off my bedroom floor and headed towards Charis's room. She was starting to regain consciousness as I walked in.
"Oh god, my head... What the hell just-"
"How are you feeling?"
"Like shit. How long was I out?"
"About an hour. Here, drink this, it'll help with the headache"
Charis took the mug of warm honey-like liquid and sipped on it as I asked how much she remembered.
"Not much, the last I remember was my head hurting like hell and everything going black. What happened?"
"Well, let's start from the beginning..." I began to explain to her all the events that led up to her passing out. From the mysterious floating boy to the royal family's appearance. However, I made sure to leave out all information on Chase, afraid that it might trigger another wave of flashbacks.
"So floating boy, Caden, is purple-haired girl's- I mean Clara's brother...who acts like a clown, creates chaos, and is actually afraid of her? And what happened back at the courtyard, was me having a really bad migraine, fainting, and you teleporting me back here to rest?"
"Yeah, that pretty much sums it up I guess."
"Wait then what about the other guy? I remember seeing someone else before I blacked out. And the orientation, is it over already?"
"Woahh slow down princess. I know you have a lot of questions, and I promise I'll answer all of them later, but first, dinner!! Just focus on unpacking your stuff. Dinner should be ready once you're done."
"Alright then" She muttered as I turned around and started heading for the door. I glanced back at the girl still trying to sort out her thoughts and sighed. This is gonna be tough...
