Charis' POV"I can't believe my parents finally agreed to let me come here..." I thought to myself as I stepped out of my limousine, face to face with the humongous diamond palace. The entire landscape was decorated with multi-coloured roses and in the middle of it all was a courtyard thrice the size of an Olympic stadium. The huge space was filled with newcomers getting ready to commence orientation week. Fairies, wizards, and witches of various ages from realms far and wide while scattered amongst the crowd, were students in matching red vests lined with tints of gold, each donning a shimmering golden rose, pinned to the top left of their vests.
"They must be part of the orientation organizing committee my brother told me about."
There were booths stationed everywhere, from "Dorm Assignments" to "Class Schedules" to "Get Your Uniforms Here!". Upon instinct, I made my way to the nearest one which was "Dorm Assignments". A sea of squealing girls huddled around the booth as if it were a "meet and greet your favourite idol" session of some sort. I thought of making my escape, however, I was met with chaos from every direction. I tried to focus on the beauty of the school's exterior to drown out the pandemonium and havoc but somehow felt everyone's eyes on me. Some were glaring daggers while others held an envious gaze. What's going on?? I spun around, trying to make sense of this sudden change in atmosphere, only to see a guy with purple and blue streaked hair strolling towards me. Perhaps it was his warm smile? Or that welcoming gaze? Whatever it was, something about him felt familiar, as if we had known each other for years...
"Hey, Charis, long time no see! " As he offered out a hand for me to shake. Confusion was clearly written all over my face. Who even is this guy? I politely shook the offered hand and couldn't help but ask the lean man in front of me "Do we know each other?" For a split second, what seemed like disappointment was evident on his face. He muttered something under his breath before looking up again and smiling at me. "Maybe I mistook you for someone else, here, this is for you." He then passed me a slip of paper with my dorm number and offered to take my bags up. "It's ok...I'll manage" I mumbled before zooming off to the fairy block I was assigned to. I was prepared to take the elevator up to my dorm when I was presented with an 'under maintenance' sign in bold, glittery letters. "Aw great, first day here and I have to climb those?!" I turned to face a long, winding crystal staircase that seemed to have no end. Beautiful as it was, the thought of my dorm being on the highest floor instantly made my stomach churn, and the regret of not working out hit me with full force. Let's just pray my stamina can handle this...
I hulled my bags up the last step and struggled to catch my breath while fumbling for my phone for the access code. I opened the door and was welcomed by a large but cosy living area. Neat rows of books were stacked on every shelf and the scent of strawberries wafted through the air. I walked in further, puzzled to see a girl in an apron, covered in icing sugar, struggling to shove something into the oven. "Hey roomie!" a chirpy voice echoed through my head. I shrieked, startled at the voice, but calmed down when I saw the girl behind the counter giggling as she turned around.
"Sorry, that was me. Let me introduce myself! I'm Christabel Madelyn Joy, Princess of the Mind realm."
"Ah, that explains that."
"Charis right? I've heard about you princess! Your adventures with Chase are quite famous in the Rose household, very entertaining to hear too"
"Say what now?"
