Clara's POVWe entered the palace doors and saw Cole and Caleb sitting on the couch, their faces full of disappointment and anger as they glared at the troublemaker next to me. Caleb beckoned me over to him and gave me a hug as we sat down on the couch. Caden sat opposite of us and took a big gulp. I could see him playing with his fingers nervously as Cole started pacing around the large living room, clearly pissed off at what he had done. After several minutes of silence, Cole started his signature 2-hour long lecture about the incident. I didn't even notice I had dozed off in my brother's arms until Caleb nudged me awake.
"Soooo...what's the verdict?" I yawned, still half asleep.
"Let's just say, he got what he deserved." He smiled gently.
We went back to our rooms to finish getting ready for the orientation ceremony that was in about an hour. I picked out a knee-length shimmery lilac dress and a pair of matching heels. To top it all off, a pair of silvery music note earrings and my amethyst pendant, which I can't ever lose. I had a little time left so I decided to finish some pieces I was working on, clearing my restless mind before having to face a crowd of thousands.
Soon, it was time to leave. I hurriedly got changed, tidied up my hair and makeup, and rushed out the door. Clambering down the stairs, I saw my family waiting for me, looking as regal as ever. My parents were dressed in the royal colours of red and gold, while my brothers had donned fitting suits of black, maroon and navy blue.
"Wow," I said under my breath, mesmerized by the elegance that my family held, not that I was surprised though. For generations after generations, every Rose carried their own sense of grace and charisma, something I aspired to find in myself one day.
We walked through the castle doors and made our way towards the personal limousines we used to tour around the school. Carriages were so out of fashion and there was absolutely no way I was going to let myself be seen in one. My parents got into theirs and my siblings and I shared two. Cole, still glaring at Caden, pulled him into his midnight blue limousine with Caleb following behind. Meanwhile, my eldest brother held the door open for me as we both hopped into his slick black one.
He really did a bang-up job adding a mini snack bar to the black and gold-lined interior. He always made sure to stock up on snacks, making sure I would never go hungry on the long rides out of the realm.
Upon reaching the courtyard, Principal Evans ( I usually address her as Auntie Rachel) led us backstage where the crew were getting ready for the welcome assembly. As the leaders of the realm, it was tradition for the Rose family to address the school on stage during these kinds of events. When our family name was introduced, my brothers and I followed my parents onto the stage and a round of applause and cheering erupted from the crowd.
"...Now that we've introduced the King and Queen, let us warmly welcome the children of the royal family! First, we have the eldest and heir to the throne, Prince Chase Tyler Rose." In an instant, the entire courtyard went wild as everyone cheered and chanted his name. However, the scene didn't last for long.
A sudden scream disrupted the vibrant atmosphere. The crowd fell silent as all eyes turned to see a girl crouched down on the floor, clutching her head and writhing in pain. The silence turned into gasps as she collapsed, motionless. My brother immediately leapt off the stage and ran towards her. Without hesitation, he picked her up into his arms, worry written all over his face. Did he know her?
I looked closer and saw Christabel next to him, her eyebrows crossed as she scanned every direction. I knew that face... she was trying to concentrate her powers to teleport them but with so many people around, it was going to be impossible for her to focus. I willed my magic and concentrated it towards the ground beneath them, raising a sound barrier over them. "Hopefully this works..." I mumbled to myself. Soon, a silvery light flashed from within the barrier. In its midst, I caught Christabel's eyes as she mouthed a 'thank you' before vanishing with the light.
