Chapter 4

Kalen ran as far away as he could get from the other applicants. Though he could still feel the hard glares the magician was getting from the others.

As the others proceeded, Kalen heard several voices speaking. So out of curiosity, he followed them and was greeted by the wonderful sight of the magician being attacked by several soon the be dead applicants.

One of the magician's attackers, while crawling away, begging and pleading for help was hit by two cards that flew through the air, cutting his screams short. If he tries to kill someone, he should be prepared to die himself. Kalen would know. He's always prepared to die.

The magician quickly turned towards Kurapika and Leorio, who had been watching for an unspecified time, and asked if they wanted to participate.

The magician approached their hiding place, but they split up and ran at Kurapika's signal. Oh so they do have some brains after all, haha wait never mind, he thinks as Leorio returns with a huge stick. Leorio made a feeble attempt to attack, but the magician dodged easily. But just as he was about to return the favor a fishing pole hit his face stopping the attack. That was probably Gon, he thought, getting ready to leave.

The magician began approaching Gon but Leorio yelled, "Your fight is with me!" and tried to hit him again. The magician just punched him. Knocking him unconscious.

Gon proceded to try and attack the magician with his fishing pole again, but the magician dodged. This goes on for a short while and Kalen turns and begins to walk away.

"Hm? You don't want to give it a try? You know, I haven't passed you yet~", the magician asks, finally noticing his presence.

"Sure, I'll give it a go.", Kalen responds with a small smile. Honestly, watching the others get beat up was quite boring, and he was taking an interest the magician. "May I at least have your name first, hm?", he asks.

"Only if you pass Dolly~", the magician responds with a bit a creepy smile spreading across his features.

Kalen brows furrow and he frowns slightly. He can't decide weather he likes this magician or not. He then reaches out his hand, curling his fingers slightly. The magician begins to jerk around a bit. He almost looked possessed. "Alright, take the unconscious man and bring him to the second phase.", he says.

The magician immediately obeys. This clearly confuses Gon since he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Kalen began to run towards the Exam site again as Gon and Kurapika ran to catch up with him. "Woah, how did you do that? It was pretty cool!", Gon asks curiously.

"You'll figure it out if you pass the Exam.", Kalen responds before picking up speed and leaving them behind.
