"We live out our lives on the surgical unit. Seven days a week, fourteen hours a day. We're together more than we're apart. After a while- the ways of residency- become the ways of life. Number one: always keep score. Number two: do whatever you can to outsmart the other guy. Oh, and yeah, number four: everything, everything is a competition. Whoever said that winning isn't everything never held a scalpel. There's another way to survive this competition. A way no one ever seems to tell you about. One you have to learn for yourself. Number five: it's not about the race at all. There are no winners or losers. Victories are counted by the number of lives saved. And once in a while, if you're smart, the life you could save could be your own".

"they're dancin', i'm feelin' static, wanna get closer like magnets"

Izzie and Lucy stood by Meredith's bedside with cups of coffee. Meredith opened one eye. "George's room is bigger than mine", Izzie stated. "I live in an attic", Lucy added in. Meredith got up but tripped and fell flat on her face. Lucy started laughing as Meredith limped away. Izzie and Lucy followed after her. "I need more space, I have more clothes", Izzie said. "It's cold up there", Lucy complained. "No, Izzie, I got there first", George said, exiting his room. "It's Mer's decision", Izzie said confidently.

"My room is two inches bigger than yours"

"You have a bigger closet"

"Put your clothes somewhere else"

"I can't, Ellis Grey's boxes are everywhere"

"Mer, maybe we could unpack a few things"

"Make it more homey"

"Ooh, could we watch some surgical tapes?"

Meredith didn't answer but slammed the door of the bathroom in their faces. Lucy knocked on it. "Mer, I need to brush my teeth", she said to the door. Meredith opened the door again, took Izzie's coffee and let Lucy in before shutting it again.

"Fools on bikes killing themselves today, interns", Bailey said to her interns. "Is Bailey off her medication or something?" Alex asked George. Lucy rolled her eyes. "Of course you don't know what the dead baby bike race is", Lucy said to Alex. "Bite me", he replied. "But, you seriously don't know what the dead baby bike race is?" George asked Alex. "Every year this bar holds an underground bike race that is completely illegal". "Crazy bunch of bike messengers racing against traffic to beat each other for free shots of tequila", Bailey complained. "I need someone to get up to the OR floor, the chief needs a right hand". Everyone's hands shot up except Meredith and Holly. "O'Malley", she decided. "Don't mingle with the ER interns, they don't know their ass from their esophagus. Sew fast, discharge fast, take them to the OR yesterday and finally, no fighting over patients". Izzie and Cristina ran to grab a patient. Lucy saw a man with bicycle spokes in his side. She glared at Alex who was eyeing the patient as well. They both raced toward the patient. Behind a curtain, Alex and Lucy fought over the patient. "I got here first, get your own, jackass", Lucy said. "Whatever, this guy is mine. You're not hardcore enough for this one anyway", Alex said. The curtain was pulled back by the patient, interrupting the argument. Alex and Lucy glared at him. "Hi, my name is Viper,'' he introduced himself. "Could you just take these out of my side so I can win the race". "We have to run some tests first", Lucy explained. Alex rolled her eyes and gently took out the spokes. Lucy groaned. "God, you're such an asshole", Lucy said. "Whatever, it's a superficial wound, not surgical", Alex replied, finishing taking out the spokes. "You can finish sewing up".

Cristina, Holly, Izzie and Derek stood over a patient. "This is an unidentified John Doe, mid-thirties pedestrian, hit by a motorist swerving to avoid a bike, GCS 3, pupils fixed and dilated, atropine given for a pulse for the forties", Cristina explained. "I guess the bike race claimed its first victim", Dr Burke said, as he entered the room. "Will he be taken to the OR?" Izzie asked Derek. "Perform confirmatory tests and if he doesn't respond in six hours, declare him brain dead", Derek replied.
