I felt the tears roll down my cheeks. I realized what was happening and quickly used my sleeve to wipe them away. It was just such a sweet sight, and well... I was a mess.
I felt a presence behind me. It was strange, I only feel presence when there's magic involved, and I wasn't using any. I turned around and felt someone embrace me in a hug, her black fluffy jacket feeling warm and comforting. "Mia...?" I asked weakly. "I saw you cry..." She said softly. "You can talk to me..." She said, somewhat reluctantly. I smiled and hugged her tighter.
We waited until it was dark, then snuck onto the roof of The Home. I brought a flashlight and some snacks. Mia came up later with a lantern. We talked for hours, laughing, crying, whispering secrets. Mia sank her teeth into a donuts. "You really like donuts, hm?" I asked. "You really like nighttime, hm?" She answered sarcastically, still smiling.
I laughed, my cyan pupil turning bright yellow with my laughter. "Wow, one of your pupils turned yellow!" Mia exclaimed. "Yea, that one does that with my emotions." I replied. I shivered in the breeze and used my wings to cover my shoulders. I turned over to Mia who was looking in awe at the rooftop view. "How old are you, Gun?" She asked. "Well, 13 ." She nodded. "How about you?" I asked. "I'm 15." She said. I sighed. "Another person older than me." I giggled.
Mia laughed. After we stopped, I asked her the question that I longed to know the answer to;
"Hey Mia, how come you cover your eyes?"
Mia was quiet. "My eyes are... Different..." She said. "I... Prefer not to show them." She continued quietly. I looked down, feeling a bit guilty. "S-sorry..." I apologized. Mia looked at me, "No, it's alright. I'm not too good at talking to people..." She trailed off. I looked at her curiously, "Are you an introvert?" I asked. "I... Guess you could say that." She responded.
"It just feels hard to talk to someone. I get really nervous and all I think about is... Him..." I looked at her, confusion gleaming through my eyes. "Him?" I asked. She looked away from me. I put my arm on her shoulder. She sighed and revealed who she was talking about. "My childhood best friend. We were so very close, almost inseparable."
"That's sweet, but... What happened to him?" I asked. Mia looked down and held her knees close to her chest. I looked at her nervously.
"He... Didn't make it past 5..."
I sat there, shocked. "I-I'm sorry..." I apologized. Mia looked back at me. "You apologize too much." She sighed, giving into a small smile. "It wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself for things that aren't your fault." She said.
I smiled, tears brimming to my eyes. Mia got to her knees and crouched down so she was eye-to-eye to me. She used her finger to wipe away a tear that was falling down my cheek. "I'm sorry. I'm just an emotional mess..." I choked out. Mia straightened her back and smiled again. "You're not the only one." She laughed. I started to feel safe and felt my eyelids feel heavy. I leaned closer to Mia, and let my eyes close, falling asleep.
I woke up in my bed the next morning. I smiled and felt my trust increase for Mia. My trust issues faded away for her and I felt good. Even the corruption scars seemed to hurt a little less.
It felt good.
