A Hesitant Smile

Cherry and Mia's relation was still unknown. Cherry was very skeptical and had a hard time trusting new people. We had just finished training. I had gotten a little carried away and accidentally broken one of the training dummies. "This is why we can't have nice things." Bebe commented while I cleaned up the spilled sand and ripped cloth. "What did you even do?" She asked. I bit my lip, "I-I um... Sliced it open with my machete." I replied.

Once I had finished cleaning, I went over to the living room to listen to some music. I had a bad habit of eavesdropping, so I decided to listen to the conversations around me. Cherry was sitting at the table across from Mia. The former was reading a book, and she was quite invested into it. Mia was fiddling with her snake earring again, a habit I noticed her needed to break. Cherry kept looking up and Mia with a suspicious glance. Mia decided to break the ice after a few minutes of this.

"So, what are you reading?" She asked. Cherry perked up quickly, a bit of her jet black hair, flying into her face. She brushed it out of the way and showed Mia the cover. "The Witches." She said. Mia smiled, "I loved that book when I was little. My sisters read it to me every night." She replied. Cherry's green eye glimmered a little. "Really! This book is my favorite!" She exclaimed happily. Mia laughed a little. "It is really good. Very good plot and story." She continued. Cherry gave into a hesitant smile.

Mia had gotten more friendly with the group, and I was glad about that. She seemed like a very kind girl on the inside, despite her stubborn and sarcastic outwards shell. She told me later that day that if she were to join the group, she'd like her new name to be Lollipop. A sweet name for her. I was finally happy to let someone in and suppress my trust issues like I had before, hoping that they wouldn't reamerge.

I still didn't know the name of the flower in the room Mia was staying in, but I didn't bother asking my dumb question.
