Two Words
Ariana never hated people. Sure she dislikes some but she doesn't hate anyone. However, Ariana does hate certain things like her mother, who she doesn't view as a person, swimming in water, being by herself, strawberries, and multiple more things. But out of all this there are no people on her list. That's starting to change with Marcus Loughty and his goons getting on her last nerve. It doesn't help that first year Gryffindors were told they would be having Flying lesson with Slytherin starting the third week of school. They had all been dreading it since it was announced the Friday before.
"I mean why Slytherin? The Professors know that there is a inter-house rivalry, what is the point of putting us together if you know a fights going to break out?" Ariana rants while walking with the others to Flying lessons.
"We're first years. They probably assume that we won't hate each other yet." Isabella says.
"Then they haven't really learned anything about teenagers." Ariana tells her. "I just don't want to make a fool of myself in front of the Slytherins. There already annoying enough."
"Just ignore what they think." Isabella tells her.
"I do, but it's still annoying having to listen to them."
Ariana had been wondering about Quidditch since the start of the term. There were a lot of other first years that talked about it including Marcus who says he would go pro if his parents let him. However, Ariana seemed like the only one who was excited for Quidditch out of her group. Sophia says it was boring while Percy and Isabelle were both nervous.
Ariana looks up to see it's a clear, breezy day, and the grass rippled under their feet as they marched down the sloping lawns towards a smooth, flat lawn. When they arrived everyone else was already there and they could hear Marcus bragging from across they lawn. There were twenty broomsticks lying in neat lines on the ground. Ariana had heard some people complain about the school broomsticks. Something about them vibrating if you were to high or always flew to the left.
"Well what are you waiting for?" Someone barked. "Everyone stand by a broomstick. Come on, hurry up."
Ariana looks up to see a Madam Hooch arrive. She had short, gray hair, and yellow eyes like a hawk.
She walks over to a broomstick. She could tell it was very old because of the faded wood and some do the twigs stuck out at odd angles.
"Stick out your right hand over your broom." Madam Hooch says. "and say Up!"
"Up!" Everyone shouted.
Ariana's broom jumped into her hand at once, but it was the only one that did. Everyone shouted it a few more times and Marcus, Sophia, both Amelias, and a few others were able to get their broom to come to their hand.
Madam Hooch told everyone whose broom was still on the ground to pick it up. She then showed them how to mount their broom while walking up and down the rows to correct students grips. Ariana and Sophia were delighted when Madam Hooch told Marcus he's been doing it wrong his entire life.
"Now when I blow the whistle, you kick off the ground, hard." She told them. "Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, and the come straight back down by leaning forward slightly. On my whistle three...two...one!" The whistle blows.
Everyone tries to rise off the ground. A couple of people run into each other and fall, some rise only to immediately fall, and Johnathan somehow manages to flip upside down.
"Wo...woah what's happening?" Ariana hears someone scream.
She twists her head around to see Percy's broom acting all crazy as he rises higher and higher.
"Mr. Jackson come down now." Madam Hooch screeches.
"I'm trying. It's the broom." He says while struggling to get the broom to go down.
Ariana looks around and notices everyone is either laughing or watching with worry. Ariana looks back up to see Percy start zooming backwards off of the lawn and towards the Great Lake.
"This is not fun." He screams while zooming away.
"Mr. Jackson!" Madam Hooch screams.
Ariana looks around and notices no one is doing anything to help Percy, so she makes a spilt second decision. She grabs her broom, gets on it, and flys after him.
A few minutes later she hasn't seen him yet so she decides to see if he can hear her. "Percy!" She shouts seeing him nowhere in sight.
"I'm over here!" Ariana hears someone call from the forested area of the woods.
Ariana flys over to where she heard his voice and lands. She sees him standing there looking at something with the broken broom behind him.
"What are you doing?" Ariana asks.
Percy points at something she cannot see. "Does this normally happen in wizard world?"
"What are you talking about?" She asks while walking over to get a view of what he's pointing at.
When she sees makes her jaw drop and she starts to freak out a little. "No I do not think that's normal. Let's get out of here...Now!"
Ariana grabs the school broom she used and then takes off with Percy also running away as fast as possible. Leaving the broken broom and two words that would change their lives.
