Chapter 13

Professor Kerr

2 hours.

That's how long since Percy had gone into the lake. Ariana remembers making sure he had his wand and knew how to send a flare up just in case of emergencies. That morning after breakfast Ariana, Isabella, and Sophia all went with Percy to the lakeside where he would begin. Isabella tried to get him to stop, but he had a far away look in his eye as he talked to them. Like his mind had been made up over the week.

Ariana watches the lake as its water just sits there. Peacefully, like nothing is wrong.

"Ariana we have to tell a teacher." Isabella says softly.

"You go. I'm staying."

Ariana hears whispering before a pair of footsteps fades into the distance. She feels someone walk up next to her.

"It's not just your fault. We should've stopped him before it happened." Sophia tells her.

"I was supposed to go with him." Ariana said. "But I was scared."

Sophia just sits there and hums. Smart enough to know she can't change Ariana's mind.

The duo stay there and watch the water. They try flares, Ariana tries calling Alicanto, Sophia jumps in the water for a minute but says she can't see anything under there. Ariana is about to just Iris Message Chiron to figure out what to do when they hear multiple pairs of footsteps coming towards them.

The two girls look up to see Fred and George.

"Ariana, Sophia.....Isabella... attacked." They say simultaneously and breathlessly.

Ariana stands up quickly. "What is she okay? What happened?" She says frantically.

"We don't know. Professor Dumbledore sent us to get you."

"But..."

Sophia interrupts her. "Go. I'll keep watch."

Ariana hesitantly nods then to Fred and George. "Show me"

Fred and George start running towards Hogwarts and Ariana easily keeps up with them.

The twins lead her to the infirmary. She bursts through the doors to see Isabella lying on a bed. With Professor Dumbledor and Professor McGonagall next to her.

When Dumbledore sees Ariana he walks over to her.

"Thank you Mr. Weasley and Mr. Weasley that will be all for now."

Ariana hears the door shut behind her.

Dumbledore leads Ariana over to the unconscious Isabella.

"Is she okay?"

"She has a broken arm and a concussion, but Madam Pomfrey believes she will make a good recovery. Although she will have to spend a couple of nights here." Dumbledore says.

"What happened to her?"

"We are trying to figure that out ourselves. Do you have any information that could help us?"

Ariana opens her mouth, but then remembers Professor McGonagall is there.

"Do not worry about her dear child. She has my trust."

Ariana nods and then starts explaining everything.

"For a majority of the year we've been focused on the guardians. We didn't know what or who they were, but somehow it was connected. Chiron's birthday present to me was Alicanto, who was called the seventh guardian. One of the words you used at the beginning of the year was Alicanto so we did research. We then saw the quote 'Kyma awaits' and we were more confused. We did more research where we discovered the seven guardians, but other than that there was nothing. During our research we discovered that Kyma means wave and Glacies meant ice. Which led back to the idea of the guardians. After Christmas I remember you telling us how your Phoenix was named Fawkes, which we assumed was fire." Ariana takes a deep breath. "We had figured out the main idea, but we were missing details. Percy told us he was hearing callings or singing from bodies of water. Which was around where he saw the words. We thought he was meant to go alone and he did and he's been under there for three and a half hours and I don't know what to do and....."

"Andromeda deep breaths." Dumbledore says calmly.

Ariana does what she is told.

"Who could've done this to a child?" Professor McGonagall asked referring to Isabella.

"Professor Dodds." Ariana says. "Isabelle went to tell a teacher and that was probably the first one she saw."

"Minerva I want you to get the other heads of houses to search for Professor Dodds and Mr. Jackson, but no one else must know." Professor McGonagall nods and runs out.

"Ariana come with me. Isabella will still be here, Madam Pomfrey can take care of her."

Ariana nods so Dumbledore and her go to his office. In his office she sees Alicanto and Fawkes on the windowsill singing softly.

"They started three and a half hours ago. It has not stopped which according to you and your friends research should mean Percy is still alive." Dumbledore tells her.

Ariana nods worried this is all her fault.

"You mustn't worry about this. It is not your fault. Everyone is going to make a good recovery."

Ariana opens her mouth to speak when Professor McGonagall knocks and then swiftly walks into the room.

"Albus we haven't found Professor Dodds yet, but we found Mr. Jackson. Apparently he stumbled out of the lake 5 minutes ago mumbling about how Professor Dodds is a monster and something about an egg."

The three of them walk back to the infirmary quickly. Ariana sees Sophia holding something in her hand while standing in between Percy and Isabella's beds.

"Sophia!"

Sophia looks up quickly to see Ariana. Sophia waves Ariana over while Professor Dumbledore and McGonagall talk to Madam Pomfrey.

"Is he okay? What happened?"

"I don't know, but a little while after you left I heard splashing in the lake. I wen to check it out and saw Percy getting out of the lake and stumbling onto dry land. I ran over to help him and he kept mumbling about Professor Dodds. Which is weird we never had a Professor Dodds here. Do you think maybe he's talking about one of the schools he was expelled from?"

Ariana is confused for a minute before she realizes the mist actual works here. Which doesn't make sense. "Sophia. Who is the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?"

Sophia gives her a look. "Seriously? You better be joking. 

"Just tell me who it is."

It's Professor Kerr of course."

Ariana sits down and decides to call Chiron as soon as possible.
