The Callings
Christmas is one of the best times of the years at Hogwarts because you can either stay there and do nothing, or go home and be with your family.
Ariana loved her two weeks at Camp Half-Blood. She missed it. But she also loved Hogwarts now, no matter how much people talked about her behind her back. When she returned to Hogwarts via Port Key she was relived that everything went back to normal starting the next few days.
Eventually those days turned into months, and months turned into more months until it was April.
Some classes had gotten better and worse in others. Ariana seemed to do best in Charms. Isabella was doing really well in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Sophia did well in all of her classes, because she paid attention, and Percy.... Percy did well in Potions and Transfiguration.
Everyone was impressed with Percy's natural talent for Potions and Transfiguration, but mainly Potions. Snape has even stopped taking points away from Percy and just ignores him, but he does make up for those lost points by punishing other Gryffindors.
Ariana had noticed Percy's personality get more welcoming and trusting as months went on. If he wasn't with Ariana, Isabella, or Sophia he was probably with Fred and George helping prank somebody, or hanging out with the other first year boy Gryffindors and complaining about everything.
Some things that hadn't improved were Professor Dodds, who still gave Percy as much trouble as possible and tried to avoid Ariana. Another thing that hadn't improved was their findings of the mysterious words. When the group had gone back to the lake to look at them after Christmas, there were no words to be found. Luckily, Sophia and Isabella trusted Percy and Ariana, so they started getting more involved in the mystery. Library books, History of Magic classes, ghosts, and teachers were no help. In their History book it only mentioned the guardians briefly and didn't even mention what they were.
For months they used part of their free time looking for answers and never found any. They never once thought about the hint Dumbledore gave them until they stumbled across it during an argument.
"The water guardian would be the strongest. There's water literally almost everywhere on the planet." Percy says.
"Suuuure. What kind of bird would be the water guardian be? A duck? How do we even know the guardians are all birds?" Isabella says.
Ariana sighs. "Isabella we've been over this so many times. We assume their all birds because someone I know called Alicanto the seventh guardian when I met him."
"How do you know this person is telling the truth?"
"I just do."
"Isabella does raise a fair point though. If Alicanto is the seventh guardian that doesn't mean they are all birds. Just him. How would the other birds connect to their element?" Sophia chimes in.
"Simple." Percy says. "Lighting would be the myth about the Thunderbird. Water umm.. I don't know yet. I don't know about Earth yet either. Darkness I don't know. Fire would be a Phoenix. Ice would be a..."
"That's it! How could we be so stupid? Dumbledore gave us a clue a while ago. " Ariana interrupts while standing up to start pacing.
"Umm... what are you talking about?" Isabella asks.
Ariana turns to look at Percy. "Do you remember when we went to Dumbledore's office so we could get a ride to America?"
Percy nods. "Yes but how does that have anything to do with...." Percy's jaw drops. "Oh."
