the last thing ariana expected was to find her director holding onto a glass of gin, while on the suite hotel kitchen floor... crying.
"what does it look like i'm doing, grande?" dalton bit back as he finished the last drop in his glass. "why are you here in my suite anyway?"
"because i heard a loud thump from across the hall and i thought you hurt yourself." ariana responded, baffled. she went over to him to help him out of the floor. "of all the times... i had to be right TODAY."
"it's not a big deal." dalton was getting slightly more defensive as the conversation went on. "i just wanted to have a drink or two."
"or ten." ariana snapped back, annoyed at how reckless he had been. a glass or two of gin wouldn't render someone of all their senses. "why would you do this to yourself, dalton? what happened?"
dalton didn't respond to ariana's question right away. as he got off of the floor, she helped position himself on one of the swivelling chairs surrounding the island dining table. "nothing happened, ariana. just go back to bed." dalton murmured as his hand began to reach for the half empty gin.
"oh hell no!" ariana slapped dalton's hand away from the bottle, causing his senses to become more alert. "i'm not about to see you poison yourself with alcohol!"
"you don't have to pretend to be worried."
these words surprised ariana. pretend? was that the impression he got from her? wasn't her friendship enough to prove her loyalty? wasn't her opening up to him enough to prove her trust? what went wrong? "dalton... i'm not pretending." ariana placed a hand gently on her friend's shoulder. "i really am worried about you. you don't have to turn to alcohol to numb whatever it is that you're feeling. i can help you -
"oh, fuck you grande!" dalton yelled out of nowhere. ariana stumbled backwards at the suddenly increased volume in his voice. "you're just like the rest of them - pretending to care in front of our faces when it's clear you don't give a shit about us."
ariana was left speechless after dalton's sudden outburst. after becoming friends and understanding one another better... she didn't expect him to act this way. she felt tears welling up against her eyes, but she blinked them away, knowing it wasn't the time or place. "come on... let's get you into the shower."
before dalton could protest and insult her further, he tumbled forward - clearly unable to maintain balance. ariana caught him before he fell to the floor, noticing the stench of gin and tonic water all over him. "i'll get you some fresh clothes."
after helping dalton find his way to the shower, ariana went to the hotel bedroom to look for spare clothing. she intentionally left the door slightly ajar in case he fell or needed anything. his words still raced across ariana's mind - what made him say that? who hurt him this badly that he felt the need to drink himself to oblivion? what did he mean by "you're just like the rest of them?" who was 'them'?
once dalton finished his shower and got into the fresh clothes ariana picked out for him, ariana made sure dalton got into bed without bumping into anything or tripping over anything. just as dalton got under the covers, ariana was prepared to leave, but as she turned around for the exit, she felt a cold but soft hand wrap around her wrist.
"stay?"

ariana my director drank himself senseless i found him on the floor after i heard a loud thud n as i tried to help him... he snapped at me for 'pretending to care' but after i helped him n got him in his bed, he asked me to 'stay' as i was about to leave i'm so confused
tom Did he tell you what happened that lead him to drink so much?
ariana nope n i personally can't think of much he came back from seattle after visiting his girlfriend n he was in such good spirits i can't even begin to guess what changed so drastically
tom I'm sure you know he's a good guy at heart and didn't mean to say any of that to you You could try talking to him after he wakes up and has sobered up a bit
ariana i plan on doing that sigh i'm so worried
tom It's going to be alright, my love I'm sure he'll talk to you once all the alcohol has left his system and he's a bit more alert
