"isn't it beautiful?" ariana commented, as her and dalton continued walking through the empty sidewalks of the Savoy. the full moon was out in perfect view, lighting up the night sky and allowing the other stars to be front and clear. the gentle wind ruffled through ariana's natural curls. "it's been a while since i took a walk at this late at night."
"you're not counting the time you hunted me down, when i was pathetically wasted at some bar?" dalton chuckled, shoving his hands in his jeans pockets as he lightly hopped over the cracks of the sidewalk.
ariana giggled, as she spun around to meet dalton's timid expression. she noticed his head had been slightly tilted downwards, trying to conceal his shyness, which made him all the more adorable to ariana. "i was too busy worried about you to even notice who i'd been shoving in a hurry."
dalton's expression quickly morphed into one ridden with guilt. he still remembered the night crystal clear - how poorly he treated her because of his own sadness, how hard he tried to conceal his pain with drink after drink, and how he worried all those who loved and cared for him without as much as a second thought. before ariana took another step away from him, dalton gently grabbed her wrist to stop her. "ariana... i'm so sorry. for all of my rancid behaviour. i really have no excuse for it."
ariana's soft eyes landed upon dalton's disappointed ones, and for a brief moment, she saw a reflection of sadness, shame, and a tad bit of anger. he was clearly still hurt - and no one would blame him if it took him a while to move past the situation. blinking several times in the void of silence between the two of them, ariana approached dalton, and lightly placed her hand on his shoulder - slightly catching him off guard. "we all have moments of weakness, sadness, anger and betrayal. it's a part of life, and it shapes us to become who we are in the future."
dalton's eyes grew, not knowing how to react to her kind and gentle demeanour. she had every right to be scorching angry with him, yet time and time again... she was so kind. she was so kind... and he didn't feel that he deserved it. "but ari... i was awful to you."
"i forgave you." ariana responded with a bright smile, mesmerizing dalton instantly. "we have been through different events of life..." she began, while turning around away from him, and continuing on the sidewalk. "... but i know what feeling helpless, sad, and angry beyond words does to someone."
right away, dalton knew what she had been talking about. the documentary gave him many details about the relationship, and he knew how much it still affected ariana to this day. "you're not alone, dalton." ariana said, turning around to face a dumbstruck dalton, who continued to stare into her blissful eyes. "i'm going to be here for you, every step of the way."
it was as if the moon casted its light on ariana alone, and nothing else around her mattered. her true authentic self was highlighted; no makeup, no hair extensions, no diamonds, no frills. it was just her wearing the biggest t-shirt on the face of the earth, sneakers, and her beautiful curls. dalton had never truly seen her this way before, and to him... there wasn't a more beautiful sight.
that's when he knew. from vehemently disliking her just several moments ago...
... to falling in ardent love with her now.
