Train Ride

AMARANTH STARED OUT THE WINDOW AS THE train made it's way to the capitol. Her and Basil were supposed to have met their mentor but he was late. The girl couldn't comprehend how one could be tardy on a train but, somehow he was, like he didn't care about the two teens from his district who's lives were on the line.

"So, how are you feeling?" Basil asked out of nowhere. He had been contemplating whether or not to speak, Amara seemed like she was on edge and honestly, he didn't want to bother her but, he always had the constant need to talk to someone, anyone really.

"How am I supposed to feel?" The Reed girl raised a questioning brow. She didn't mean to snap on the boy but, the circumstances gave her a free pass at the moment.

"Good point." The Covyn boy stared longingly out of the window. "If only we had been born in a different time, or place."

"We weren't, neither of us are that lucky." Amara sighed, bringing her knees up against her chest worriedly.

"I guess we aren't." Basil frowned slightly, tapping his foot on the ground. They were both so young, neither had even had a chance to live, not that there was much of a life in district eleven except for work.

"You two." A man with a deep voice spoke, both teens turning around as he pointed at them.

"Who are you?" The Covyn boy raised a slight brow in question, not immediately recognizing him.

"He's Lennox Blaise." Amara spoke, narrowing her eyes. She had never met someone who actually partook in the games and Lennox, he was the addict victor from hell. "Panem's bad boy."

"One point for the short one." Len pointed finger guns at her and sat in the seat across from the kids, leaning back. He wasn't much older than them, maybe four or five years at best but, he had gone through the games a long long time ago. He won at a mere fifteen years old.

The youngest ever before Finnick came along.

"I'm average height." Amaranth narrowed her eyes at the man who reeked of a plant that they were no longer allowed to grow in district eleven, or anywhere in Panem for that matter.

"Sure, anyways, I don't know if i'll be of much help to either of you." Lennox pointed to himself. "As you can see, i'm a mess who won the games six years ago. Which was completely by luck in the first place."

"Luck is all any of us need." Basil commented, a slight smile on his lips, he was a hopeful boy, even if the hope was terribly misguided.
