Y/N POV
"Let's run away."
Chris's eyes widened, but he instantly met my eyes with a sad stare.
"You don't know how much I would love to leave everything behind. But we can't, sweetheart. You'll be the future Queen of this country. I can't be the reason you abandon everything." He gripped my hands.
"But I want to leave everything behind." Tears escaped my eyes. No matter how hard I tried to swallow the knot in my throat, and to keep the tears from spilling, it was useless.
I felt scared because I didn't know what would happen to Chris. The whole situation would also separate Thomas and Amber from each other. And knowing my father, he'd rush the arrangement and make us get married faster so the rumors of our actual relationships wouldn't spread.
Chris let out a heavy sigh and shook his head. His eyes were glistening when they looked up at me.
"Leave me behind." He muttered in a low, almost inaudible murmur.
"Chris-" I reached for his cheek but he stood up.
"I love you. But I don't want you to get in trouble." He offered me his hand to stand up, but I did it on my own.
"Trouble? They're going to make me marry Thomas faster!" I tried reasoning with him, but I could tell he would not change his mind. He probably thinks that it'll be the best for me to forget about him, but he couldn't be more wrong.
Chris stayed silent and looked at me with tears in his eyes. I could tell he was just as desperate as I was. But he was trying to protect me. The thing was, I didn't want to be protected. Not this way. I wanted to give my relationship with Chris a chance. But the moment Rosie told my father was the moment that chance was taken away from us.
"I'll get my family and go back home. Your life will be better without me in it." Tears fell down his cheeks.
In that instant, I felt like a building fell on top of me, crushing my heart and soul. Chris was going back to the United States, and I would never see him again.

As I walked to the living room in which my father was waiting for me, I felt cold and numb. I wanted to cry and scream at the top of my lungs. Let everyone realize the pain that losing Chris caused me. But nothing came out of my mouth and I forbid myself from crying in front of my father. I had to show him I'm strong enough and wise enough to make my own decisions.
My head was swirling with memories of Chris. The day I met him at the ball, meeting his family, going on dates with him and everything that happened last night. Last night he made me feel more loved than anyone else ever has. He made me forget about the arrangement and all the heaviness that came from being a princess. Last night we were just random people who loved each other heavily.
Walking through the halls made me feel like a prisoner. Sure, they did not lock me up in a cell, but I felt emotionally trapped. They had decided my life for me before I was even born. I can't make my own decisions without fearing my fathers' reaction. The day I become queen I'll have more royal duties than now, but I'll do and be with whomever I want.
Thinking about my father made me wonder about my mother. Where was she right now? Did she talk with my father already? Could she have changed my fathers' mind about Chris? Even if she changed his mind, it was too late. Chris and his family had probably booked a flight back to Boston already. He'd leave in a few hours.
I stopped abruptly once I saw Thomas and Amber running towards me. Picking up my dress, I ran towards them in worry.
"Y/n!" Thomas yelled, hand in hand with Amber.
We stopped running once we reached each other, and I asked, "Are you guys alright? What has happened?"
"Nothing yet. But we are about to do something and we need you."
I raised one of my brows and waited for an answer.
"We're getting married." Amber grinned excitedly.
My shock was pretty clear, considering they started laughing at my reaction.
"Wait. What?!" They must be crazy.
"My parents said they'd make me King as soon as I got married. And if I'm King, there's no way they could separate us. Or force me to marry you." He explained nonchalantly.
"So eloping sounds like the best option?" I was obviously shocked, but I couldn't stop the smile that formed on my face.
"We've been in love for a long time now. We both want this, Y/n. And it will stop the arrangement!" Amber smiled.
"But, we wanted you to be our maid of honor and best man all in one. And you could also walk Amber down the aisle, perhaps?" Thomas asked me with nervousness in his tone.
I looked at them with wide eyes. "Really?! I would love to!"
They laughed and hugged me tightly. At least one of us will be happy.
"Let's go then. We have to do this before talking with them. That way they'll be forced to do my coronation in a few weeks and dissolve the arrangement once and for all."
Amber offered me her hand, and I took it. The three of us ran together, but I didn't know where Thomas and Amber were going to take me.
We took one limousine and Thomas told the driver where to drive us. Apparently, they wanted to have a beach wedding.
On the way there, I received a text from Chris.
From: Chris
We're at the airport. Our flight is in an hour.
From: Chris
I love you, Y/n.
I stared at the screen and tried to swallow the knot in my throat. My mood would not ruin my best friend's wedding.
To: Chris
I love you more.

After Thomas got out of the limousine, Amber changed into a short yet beautiful white dress. Even though this wedding was going to be quick, it meant the world to Thomas and Amber. This wedding meant they'd be together no matter what our parents said.
Walking Amber down the aisle was emotional. My best friend was getting married and I could tell he was enjoying it, no matter how fast it had to happen. His eyes were filled with tears during the entire ceremony, and Amber was a crying mess. It was kind of funny, but mostly adorable.
After the ceremony was over and the Priest said they could kiss, I couldn't help but think of the love I lost hours ago.
I must've been deep in thought, because Thomas was the one who snapped me out of it. Apparently Amber was going to wait for us in the limousine.
"How did things go with him?" We were now standing together and looking at the ocean waves hitting the shore.
"He's at the airport." I whispered.
Thomas sighed heavily and placed his arm around my shoulders.
"Let's go then." He smiled at me.
"Huh?" I looked up at him in confusion.
"Let's go to the airport. Tell him the arrangement is dissolved now that I'm married."
I smiled at Thomas. Maybe Chris and I can be together after all.
"Let's go."
