Chris POV
“Chris.” She gasped, her eyes dancing across my face.
The woman I fell in love with years ago was looking up at me with disbelief in her features. It definitely surprised her to see me, I could tell. But was it a joyous surprise or an unfortunate one?
“Your majesty.” I smirked and bowed to her. It’s the day of her coronation and she should be treated like the Queen she’s about to turn into.
After I stood straight again, I realized that her expression changed to a beautiful smile.
“What are you doing here?” She whispered and walked closer towards me, making my heart race.
“I wanted to be here for your special day.” I walked even closer to her, and I realized that her breathing got heavier.
Truth was, her mother invited me to the coronation. She told me that since Y/n would become Queen, nothing would stop us from being together. Because even after all these years, this woman still owns my heart and now that we have the chance to be together, I won’t let it go to waste.
“Thank you.” Her smile alone could light up the entire room, for it was brighter than the chandeliers hanging from the sky high roof.
The entire night, I’ve been planning to find her and take her to what used to be our special place. Once we get there, I’ll tell her how my feelings haven’t changed and that she’d be the last woman I ever love.
“Would you mind coming with me for a sec?” Her smile dropped, and she looked around the room, searching for someone or something.
After a few seconds, she turned back to me and nodded, with a soft smile playing on her lips.
I took her hand and led her out of the ballroom. The security guards didn’t bother to say anything after they saw I was with her.
Running with her through the halls of the castle reminded me of the days I met her and we sneaked around the castle together. I missed this rush and feeling her trust and willingness to be with me again. Even if it was just for a few seconds, it made me feel happier than I’ve ever been.
She immediately knew where I was taking her once we got to the general gardens. I could tell by the look on her face that she was nervous, and it bothered me. I wanted her to be comfortable with me again. Which made me wonder, is she nervous because she brought someone else here? Is this not our place anymore?
I opened the door to the secret garden and watched her enter. I closed the door behind us and observed her carefully, waiting for her to say something or let me know how she felt about me being here.
She let out an enormous sigh and smiled sadly. “I haven’t been here since…”
Her confession astounded me. Has it really been three years since she came here? A part of me was concerned about why she felt like she didn’t want to come anymore, but a selfish part of me was glad that she had brought no one else.
I stood in front of her, admiring her beauty and cherishing her presence. Even after all the time that has passed, and that she never responded to my text messages or calls, I was still madly in love with the soon to be Queen. And I needed to let her know that now that I’m here in Davia, I’ll do anything to be with her again.
“Y/n, I know it’s been a long time, but-” She silenced me by placing her hand on my mouth.
“Say nothing.” After chuckling, she removed her hand from my mouth and looked up at me with a smile adorning her face. We spent a few seconds looking at each other with the most absurd grins on our faces.
I missed this. I missed her loving smile, the soft tone of her voice, the shine in her eyes whenever she’s happy about something, and even small cheesy moments like this one.
Taking a small step forward, I nervously took her into my embrace. All my problems melted away when I felt her arms wrap around my torso and her small hand caressing my back. Her touch gave me the inner peace I’ve always desired to have. She’s the only person who has ever made me feel at peace, even with the smallest sign of attention. Whether it’s her fingers burning my skin with their touch, her voice blessing my ears when she whispers my name, or her stunning eyes gazing into mine. The way she made me feel had never changed despite the time we’ve spent apart and it made me feel like the luckiest man alive when I felt her muscles relax under my embrace, signaling that I was her peaceful escape from reality just like she was mine.
I rested my cheek on her head and swayed her from left to right. Her arms tightened around my waist, and I smiled contentedly at her affection.
We clung to each other, swaying to the sounds the night was giving us. The howling wind, crickets chirping, and the sound of our heavy breathing. I don’t know how much time we spent this way, but it didn’t matter. All that mattered was that despite our separation, she still wanted to talk to me. She was even willing to come back to the secret garden, which now I knew she never visited after I left for Boston. No matter how much time we spend without each other, the trust was still there. And so was my love for her.
I was dumb enough to give up easily the first time, but it won’t happen again. I don’t care how long it might take for her to give our relationship another chance, and I’ll fight anyone for it if I have to. The love of my life won’t slip from my fingers.
The only thought that kept bothering me was, does she still love me?
I shut my eyes, trying to forget the question, and forced myself to get lost in the moment. And I did. We both did.
We got lost in the moment so much that we completely forgot about the coronation that was about to occur.
