Chapter Fourteen

"Jean!" Paimon waved hello to the Acting Grand Master as she noticed her walking through the city.

"Aether, Xiao, y/n, Paimon!" Jean exclaimed as soon as she saw you which had surprised the four of you.

It was very much unlike her to act this enthusiastic about seeing someone. Putting the four of you off, you each had a similar thought questioning if that was the Jean that you all knew. After all, the Jean that you were all familiar with the responsible and mature lady that everyone relied on.

"Jean?" You blurted out.

"Oh sorry," Jean sighed. "I lost my composure."

"It's fine," Aether smiled in understanding. "It happens."

"Are you alright Jean?" You asked, bringing to light Jean's very much dark eye bags. "You look really tired. Do you need any help?"

"Thay would be very amazing," Jean said enthusiastically, her eyes shining.

With her very remarkable change in personality when you had mentioned helping her, all of you knew something big was up. With this in mind, you all turned serious.

"Of course."

"Sorry to bother you with this again," Jean shook her head in defeat. "But do you think you can check out these areas? The Abyss Order has been making even more appearances as of late. Because of this, a lot of people are scared to go out. I would just have the other Knights do this but we don't have enough people who would stand a chance against Abyss Mages and all of the people who can are swamped with taking care of other locations. It would be a really big help if you did this."

Jean brought out a map and started pointing out the places where the Abyss Order has been active. While doing this, she also asked the four of you to check out he place that she was talking about.

Sighing with exhaustion, Jean continued to explain everything about the situation. It was easy to see just how tiring it was for the Acting Grand Master.

"We'll help out," Aether said for the four of you as an acting spokesperson. "That way some of the pressure on you can be released."

"Thank you so much," Jean told you all with a genuine smile.

"We should go now to help us out," you started. "This was Jean can have less to worry about. Less stress on her shoulders."

"Yeah," Aether agreed.

Xiao gave an indifferent nod letting you all know that he was listening as well as confirming his agreement with your decision.

"Thank you so much," Jean gave a smile, her once tired face glowing with joy.

After the short discussion about what they were to do about the Abyss Order as well as the locations that they would visit, the four of you went on your way.

"Why do you think the Abyss Order being really active?" Paimon wondered. "Do you think they have some kind of diabolical plan?"

"Most likely," Xiao replied, his hand gripping his spear in preparation to fight at a moments notice.

"Though what could their plan be?" You added to Paimon's original questions.

Aether brought out his sword as soon as he saw the Abyss Mages in view, "Who knows. All we can do is beat them so that they can't harm anyone."
