I glanced in Matthews direction for maybe the twentieth time in the past ten minutes. I was going out of my way to gain his attention, and he was going out of his way to avoid me. I glare at his back once he turns away and Max starts chuckling next to me.

I turn my glare onto him and he keeps laughing. It has been two days since I interfered with Henry and him, two days since I found out I was leaving sooner than expected. I was going my best to talk to him, and he was doing his best to ignore what I had to tell him.

"It might help if I talk to him first, tell him that you are leav-"

"No!" I shout, and the room goes silent. All eyes are on us, I shoot a glare at anyone who dares to look at me. "You will not talk to him. I will tell him." I tell Max once the guards go back to enjoying their lunch.

"All I am saying is he is avoiding you like the plague, and you are trying to capture his attention like it was your next meal. It might do you some good to let me help you."

"Just leave it alone Max."

The guards eyes trail after me as I leave them to enjoy their lunch, while I go to find Henry. I had a training session that I could not miss. I have already skipped the last two and Henry was ready to strangle me for that. I don't want to find out what he will do if I miss another one.

I hear Matthew sigh behind me as I turn yet another corner trying to find Henry. I have half of a mind to not tell him to fuck off. I keep walking until I find Henry.

I find Henry shoving his tongue down some girls throat. I turn around and Matthew is hot on my heels. Neither one of us wanted to see that. The image is burned into my brain, I grab an axe from the wall an throw it at the target. As soon as Henry is down he can come find me in the War Room.

"Sorry that I am late, the meeting ran late." Henry says walking into the room breathless.

For the first time in the past two days Matthew looks at me, and we share a secret smile. Knowing that Henry was in no meeting.

"Whatever, I've just been practicing." I throw another axe at the target to prove my point.

"Did you do everything you needed to do? I mean with-"

"Yes. I did." I grit through my teeth.

He raises his eyebrow not believing me. Not that I would believe myself. It was obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes that I had not talked things out with Matthew. I throw another axe to let out the anger that Henry brought out in me.

"Did you want to spare today? Or did you just want to keep throwing axes?"

"Axe throwing sounds wonderful." I mutter.

"Then you can keep throwing axes like the crazy women you are." Henry takes a step back as I lift the axe out of the target.

The three hours of our training session pass by rather quickly. Henry let me throw the axes for the first hour, but the last two he made me run. He wanted me to be faster, and so did I. I knew I could be faster, I knew that I could beat every single soul in that competition- if I was where I once was.

While I ran around the palace perimeter Matthew watched me like a hawk, never taking his eyes off of me. Or never taking his eyes off of me when I wasn't looking at him. He knew I was watching him, just like I knew he was watching me.

He trailed behind me like he has been that past two days. I placed my hand on my door handle once we reached my room, this was it. I was going to tell him we were leaving earlier than expected, but when I started to turn towards him I stopped. I should tell him, I have to tell him, but I cant. He doesn't care, because he has no reason to. I am just a job to him. I took whatever friendship that was building and destroyed it.

"Val-" I turned around so fast I knocked into him, I had missed the steps he had taken towards me.

"Matthew, you need to report back to Max. Henry has assigned you else where. I am taking over this post." Brandon says walking down the hall. I glance around Matthew and watch Brandon come closer and closer.

"Matthew-"

"I'll come find you later." he mutters before turning around. I watch him walk away as Brandon comes closer to me smile plastered on his face.

He obviously doesn't realize what he just interrupted, not that I was sure what was going on. He nods his head towards my door, and I go into my room. Brandon follows once he is certain no one is heading our way.

"I am sorry for-"

"You didn't do anything." I tell him throwing my sword onto my bed.

"Well, then I apologize for interrupting what was coming." He looks around my room before continuing with what was on his mind. "Max told me you were leaving."

"He told me that, when he told me Henry wanted me to work Matt's post. He told me so I wouldn't keep fighting him, I didn't want to be here- not like that. I just didn't want to take his job. I know there is something going on between the two of you." He rushes out, afraid that I will cut him off before he could say all that he wanted to.

"It's fine. I knew it was only a matter of time before Max told everyone."

"He didn't tell me because he wanted too-"

"I know. Trust me. I know." Sometimes when you are the leader you have to do things that you don't necessarily want to. You do things because they are the right thing to do.
