Chapter Five
"Ryven, how long does it take to check the area you assigned our son?" Last night he was back within the hour, even with the storm raging. Tonight, shouldn't be any different. Unless something bad happened, I knew we should have sent him out with the guards. This wouldn't have happened if...
"Would you stop that? He is fine Annistyn. You know he is probably with Henry right now and forgot to tell us he was back home."
"You and I both know that Jeremy hates archery, and that is exactly what Henry is doing at the moment."
"You act like I don't know this. You are over thinking things, take a deep breath. I'll go get him right now." He says guiding me to the chair, once I am seated, he hands me a book. Trying to keep me from pacing the room again.
"Hey mom! Dad! I'm home." Jeremy shouts from down the hall. I let out a breath that I didn't even realize I was holding.
"See, I told you he was here the whole time." Ryven says with a smug smirk, like we are teenagers again.
"I think I was right. He just got home." I counter. Before he can say anything to me Jeremy walks into the study.
"You'll never believe what I found, or..." but his words were cutoff because he decided running out of the room was more important than explaining things.
"He is all your son." my husband says to me. I roll my eyes at him, following after him.
"I think that is all your doing." I whisper back, and he chuckles.
His laughter is cut sort when we arrive to the small sitting area however, Jeremy is standing over a young woman with a triumphant smile. I breath in through my nose, and out my mouth. Clearly, he still doesn't understand that he can't... This simply isn't happening.
"Well, Annistyn, I'll let you do what you need to. I am going to be in the study." Ryven says, pecking me on the cheek. Clearly avoiding the situation at hand.
"Jeremy, why are you still in here?" I motion to the room around us.
"I can't leave her here." I sigh out my nose this time, sometimes I don't know what I am going to do with him.
"Obviously, we have guest rooms for a reason." He glances at the floor in embarrassment. I don't hesitate to start leading the way to the guest room she will be occupying, Jeremy falls behind- but only for a moment. He knows better than complaining about something that is his doing.
I help him get the unconscious girl situated along with all her belongings. I really hope he didn't make any promises to this girl. Not like I mind taking care of my people, it's just I don't want her thinking she can stay here forever when he didn't talk to Ryven or myself first.
"Mom, wait. I need to set these up for her." He says motioning to the paintings that we just lugged into the room. I nod my head and wait out in the hall and start pacing there.
Thoughts of servant's rush through my head. Obviously, we have to have someone look after her while she stays. But who? Who would be the best fit for such a mysterious guest? Eliza- no, the sisters. Yes. They will be the perfect match for welcoming such a guest.
"Why did you bring her here? You can't kidnap any pretty girl you want." I say to him once he has closed the door. I walk down the hallway a bit more, careful not to disturb the sleeping girl. Sometimes I don't understand the things going through his head, and this is one of those moments.
"I have a perfectly good explanation for this." He says before I cut him off.
"I'm sure you do." I shake my head at him before continuing, "What I want to know is why you thought this- any of this was expectable. I also want to know if you made any promises to her regarding her stay here."
