Chapter One
Now I know what you are thinking, this whole story is going to be told by some lame unimportant dude. A dude that is probably in is thirties, old, gray beard and is going bald. First of all, ouch. Words hurt. Second of all your wrong about your first assumption as well. For a while I will be telling you the story, and slowly ease you into it. Think of me as a narrator in the play for a while, and then after time you will graduate to being in the person's mind. It isn't confusing at all really. I promise. With a little bit of time and patience you will get used to the way things are. Are you ready? Really? You are? Well then, here we go. We start off in the palace, specifically the bed chambers of the King Ryven and the Queen Annistyn- you remember her, don't you? Anyway, back to it...
"Annistyn, come and enjoy the nice weather with us. You look like you could use some sun." her husband Ira shouted down the hallway to her.
"No! I can't. Don't you remember what day it is? How could you forget, I can't believe you? You... I just can't okay?" Annistyn shot back.
"Annistyn, honey, of course I remember what day it is. How can you accuse me of being so heartless, or forgetful? It's just that you haven't been the same since that- that evening." The words painful for him to choke out. "I see you fade away slowly each day, one little piece each day. First it was the little things, and I could understand that at first, but now? Everything seems to bother you, now you can't stand to be around your other children. The one that are here, the ones that need you. I'm worried about you; the kids are worried about you."
"For some reason you seem to think you're the only one that misses her or is affected by her absence. How could you forget the hours and the days I spent searching for her? How many months I spent my every waking moment out there searching for our little girl. How much I want to be out there right now searching for her, but at some point, I realized that she might be better off without us. If she is even alive right now."
"How can you say such crude things?" Annistyn sobs.
"It doesn't come easily, but they are things that I have thought for a while. We haven't been in her life since the day she was born, we have had no impact on the way she lives personally. As for the part about her being dead, it isn't something we can rule out completely. You would think if she were still alive someone would have found her by now." He searches her face for a moment, hoping his words have resonated with her. He sighs when he realizes he has to say more.
"Look around you, your blessed to have such a wonderful life. You have a husband that loves you, and children that adore you. Children that only know is you fall deeper and deeper into an uncurable depression. Especially this time of year. You think no one notices the pain you're in but we do, I do. The whole kingdom notices. You act like nothing changes but it does, and every year the kids ask the same questions. Why aren't they good enough? Why don't they deserve you undivided attention? All they want to do is impress you, to love you. To know you love them. Do you notice this? Or are you too wrapped up in your depression to realize? You need to move on and focus on the kids. Or move on in a degree, move on from this unhealthy obsession, and live a better life." By the tears running down his wife's face he could tell that she understood.
"I, I understand Ryven. More importantly I know that you and the kids love me." Annistyn relies shaken to the core and confused about how she could have missed these things.
"However, it is hard for me to accept someone stole my child from me. It bothers me that we couldn't find her or figure out who stole her in the first place. The whole thing has driven me crazy. The fact that we don't even know if our daughter is alive or dead makes me insane." She stops talking for a moment, "How can we do such amazing things? How can we rescue other people's children from suffering the same fate? How can we control elements of nature, and even fly- but not rescue our sweet innocent little baby girl? How am I supposed to live with that?" The thoughts she has kept inside her for so long come rushing out now.
