Taking a deep breath, I brace myself before stepping inside the small cafe. I stand outside on the sidewalk while considering if I should run for it. But then again, this is a major project, and I'm going to have to get over this guy's attitude eventually.
"It's only an assignment, Emiko. You can do it." I tell myself words of encouragement though they don't seem to help in the slightest.
I push myself forward as if knowing there's no way around this. I push open the door and walk inside. Hopefully, this will be over soon, so I won't have to be around this jerk for long.
Soon enough, I spot him near the back of the room.
"I'm going to hate every second of this,"
Putting on a fake smile, I step forward and make my way to the table. Once making it next to him, I greet him.
"Hello-"
"Sit," he turns a page in a book before bending back the edge of the paper and shutting it. He places it on top of the table and takes off his glasses. "You're late,"
I sit while explaining. "I couldn't help that the subways were packed. Everyone was in a hurry to get home, even now people are rushing," I admit, watching how a man comes jogging by the cafe window in a suit and tie.
"That's no excuse. I've been here for thirty minutes, and frankly, I was hoping you wouldn't show. I've told you already this would be better if you left it up to me to do the assignment." He suddenly turns behind him, pulling out a laptop from his backpack, then starts opening it. "I've already been searching the topic." He begins typing without waiting for me to say anything.
"You're stuck with me, so there's no point in trying to get rid of me. I'm helping no matter what."
He stops looking at his screen, then his eyes dart to mine. "Have you looked at our topic any?"
"Uh no, not yet I haven't," I fight the urge not to have an attitude because I still have to work with him. "I only got out of my last class an hour ago, then I had to rush here."
He drops his gaze, closing his eyes for a moment. "Okay," he breathes sharply. "As our professor said, it ties into everything that's been happening lately."
"The wolf story, the news of the beast, the killings, and everything has to be involved in our essay and podcast." He pauses to let his words sink in.
"Although the professor never said how far our lengths should go into this assignment, he has written on the instructions that we can ask around about the victims, walk near the murder scenes, explore the nearest forests, and such. These are only one category while the others are either reading newspapers or watching the news."
"Wait, so is our project on the beast? Or the story he told us in class?" I ask a little confused.
Namjoon slumps back in his seat, arms crossing over each other. "Now that you mention it, I have no clue, but I believe it's up to the students to decide which one they want to do-or at least that's how it reads on the sheet he handed us. I heard a few people mention they were going to do theirs mostly on wolves. So I guess that's where we should start by finding out what we're going to write about."
