Jasper took a look at his plane. "Any damage?" asked Terry. "Not really, I thought it was much worse." said Jasper. "It looks like just a few holes." said Terry pointing at the holes on the tail of the plane. "Ya, it didn't even damage the flaps!" said Jasper feeling the tail wing.
It was daytime now and Jasper and Terry were eating their breakfast with their squad mates.
"So what took you so long to get up there last night?" asked Jasper looking at Terry. "Well, the noise didn't wake me up at first, but when it did, I was really slow out of bed. "Oh." said Jasper picking at his food.Jasper and Terry sat down at the small table in their barracks, and started playing checkers. They used white and black bottle caps as their pieces.
"Almost had that one." said Jasper looking down at the board with none of his pieces on it.
"Well better luck next time." said Terry smiling.
The two were walking on the airfield when they were stopped by Rick. "Nice fighting out there." said Rick. "Thanks Rick." said Jasper trying to keep moving. Jasper and Terry didn't trust Rick. He made reckless decisions and was very unpredictable.
"Well I will see you up there I guess." said Rick. "Yup." said Terry who had began walking again."We never finished our conversation earlier." said Jasper sitting on his bed. "What are you going to do when you get back home?"
"Jee, I don't know Jasper." said Terry staring at the end of his bed. "Well it couldn't hurt to think right?" asked Jasper. Terry shrugged, "Honestly, when I get back, I think I might want to start my own baking business, and start spending some more time with my family."
"That sounds nice." said Jasper looking at the top of the barracks. "So what about you?" asked Terry "What are you going to do after this?"
Jasper thought of his wife and two kids. "Well, I think I will go back to the farm. My family is already covering my chores while I'm here."
The two laid there for a bit and slowly, drifted to sleep. The next morning, James rallied up his squad. "Alright everyone, today we are going to be on the offense. We will be defending a squad of Avro Lancaster bombers. Our goal is make sure no enemy fighters touch them. Understood?"
"Yes sir!" said the squad sternly. James looked at his proud soldiers "Good. Now go make sure your planes are ready and have full fuel tanks. We're in for a long one."
