(Flashback, Seahawk's POV)

A few minutes in, they all looked to be doing well.

They were going to go on a mission, something like a dream or VR, and it was supposed to mimic a real situation. I opted out with the whole "mind" thing, still finding it... not the best option.

Slinking to the couch, having stayed up late the night before, I dozed off lightly.

"Seahawk, wake up, we have an emergency!"

I snapped my eyes open immediately, slinging Riptide into my hand, following Batman without a word.

Something was wrong.

Batman stepped forward, putting a hand on Artemis' shaking shoulder, "She "died", and she believes she really did. She's slipped into a coma, along with some of the others."

Nodding my head, I turned to Martian Manhunter, "What do we do?"

Before he could answer, some of them gasped in surprise but remained comatose.

And then I realized...

They must've died too.

Martian Manhunter continued, "Miss Martian has felt the death of Artemis was real, as well as her other teammates, her subconscious has taken over and I cannot fight through her emotions. I also cannot enter it, I do not have a strong enough hold, she is in complete control. I need to send someone else into the exercise."

"You mean me," I stuttered, "but why can't you send in Batman?"

"They saw me die before I had the chance to ender," He gripped my shoulders tightly, "But I know you can help Miss Martian enough to get them out and save them, we would not be asking if it wasn't desperate."

I could hear the worry in his voice, he was scared.

Scared for the team, scared for his sons, scared of what would happen if I went in and never came out.

Growling, I nodded my head in acceptance, the coldness of the extra metal platform stinging my neck.

"You have to remember, none of it is real, if you get Miss Martian to realize this, it will end and bring you back to reality."

Closing my eyes, I felt Martian Manhunter place his fingers on my temples.

"Good luck, Seahawk."

____

I could hear voices filtering through the darkness, but I couldn't seem to open my eyes again.

"He saved us."

"He succeeded, he remembered when we could not."

"Why won't he wake up?"

"I do not know."

My eyes shot open.

I was breathing.

I was alive.

Gingerly touching my head, feeling the lethal wound wasn't there anymore, my gaze swept around the room.

Megan was hanging onto Captain Marvel as he held her in his arms, consoling her quietly.

Artemis and Wally sat next to each other with shock blankets, numbly looking at their hands.

Connor fondled Wolf's ears and held him tight, looking worriedly at Megan.

And everyone turned sharply as I groaned, slowly sitting up.

Robin rushed to my side, "You are awake!"

I opened my mouth to speak, but he crushed the air out of my lungs, hugging me.

Silently sobbing into my shoulder, he muttered, "They aren't dead, we're not dead," like it was the only thing keeping him from collapsing completely.

Wrapping my own arms around him, he nuzzled his head further into the crook of my neck.

Batman came forward, placing his hand on Dami's head, the weight of his other pulling down my shoulder, "You all did good, even though it was deemed to fail."

He hung his head in defeat, "I did not know it would be this dangerous, I would not have put any of you in there had we known."

I nodded in shock, going over to Megan, not uttering a word the whole time.

Slowly pulling her into my arms, we both shook as our silent apologies went through the embrace.

"I am so sorry," she choked, "I put everyone in danger, and you had to save us, even though you hate having your mind messed with and had to go through that, just to wake us."

I shushed her, not saying anything, squeezing her tighter.

____

After debriefing I pulled up my hood, walking stiffly and determinedly past Canary's office, ignoring the soft cries coming from it, and the room's entire existence.

Wrapping my arms around myself, going aimlessly about the Mountain, I could still feel the ghostly touch of my non-existing caved-in skull.

I didn't realize what I was doing until I heard a robotic voice, "Recognized: Seahawk DG01"

Entering Gotham again, I tapped dully out of my outfit before roaming the streets.

Feeling muggers approach me, I gave them a half-hearted Lupa glare and was once again alone.

Remembering the comforting waters, the warm sand, the memories there, I vapor traveled out.
