Faint slivers of silvery light seeped through crevices of the cavern. The cracks sprawled in webs along the rough walls, casting silver pools over the stony floor. The lit patches shone softly in the semi-dark.

A set of footsteps echoed off the looming barriers, growing and fading with distance as its owner strolled within. Light briefly illuminated the figure as he passed under pale beams.

He was tall, with broad shoulders, sealed from head to toe in slate-gray armor. The polished iron glinted pale silver despite the mild gloom, weaved with ruby streaks. A jagged trident gleamed from his forehead, where a pair of blazing, blood-red slits glared beneath.

"Pascal, you said you had plans?" The gray ranger paused in his pacing and swiveled on the dark silhouette silently awaiting in a corner of the cavern.

Pascal placed a gloved hand over his chest and bent in a slight bow. "Yes, Sir Icarus."

"Share."

Pascal bent low once more before emerging into the semi-gloom, the soft light accentuating the scaly texture of his violet armor.

"I have an idea on getting rid of those Miniforce brats that I have told you about, once and for all." His voice was low and drawling. "And I have no doubt that it will work."

Icarus raked skeptical gaze over his new subordinate. "You said you've made many attempts to achieve that goal, with even the help of the human millionaire Nein, but I assume they have failed, how am I to trust you?"

Pascal cleared his throat. "Because I won't be avenging on my own, or with the help of the likes of Nein." He spat the name with distaste.

"Be specific."

"More than once," Pascal explained, "I've had assistance from my recruits, and they have failed me." He barely concealed a snarl as he recited his past failures.

"However, they took turns trying, and each was defeated by the Miniforce team." His voice quivered, failing to suppress his thrill. "But, suppose we recruit them again and revenge the Miniforce as one, with each recruit's ability, surely we will overpower those pesky brats. We will be an army, an unstoppable army. And when we successfully conquer earth, you will unify the humans, and I will 'take care' of the animals."

The wild speech left the cavern silent. Only faint echoes whispered remnants of his words, tempting its only audience. The violet ranger dared a glance at his master before ducking his gaze to the ground.

As bizarre as this plan was, it seemed to intrigue Icarus. He brought up a gnarled hand and caressed his chin, pensive.

"That's some plan," he mused. "An unstoppable army. I like the sound of that."

Pascal remained bowed low, waiting with bated breath for his new master's decision.

"But yet, you also told me that those subordinates were slain." Icarus sent him a pointed look, a sliver of doubt lingered in his voice.

"They were defeated, not destroyed." Pascal corrected quickly. "A small few had been blasted and were tragically killed, but most survived the explosions."

"I see," tension drained from Icarus's tone. "If so, why don't you begin this little plan of yours now? I haven't much time to waste."

The violet ranger lifted his hand and snapped his fingers together, the sound echoed throughout the cavern, soon swallowed by the overwhelming rustle of a thousand beating wings.

The cavern darkened as a storm of vampire bats surged through the crevices, each carrying an iridescent golden scroll in their talons. The flock blew through the stony space like a black tornado and soared toward the entrance, fanning the air turbulent.

Pascal reached out and pried a scroll from a passing bat's talons. The tamed creature hovered in mid-air, patiently waiting. He unfurled the scroll, revealing jagged script as he offered it to his master with both hands. "Won't you look over the message, sir?"

Icarus gave a dismissive wave, turning his back against the violet ranger. "I trust you to execute your own plan, I never take imbeciles as my subordinates."

The paper recoiled with a snap, crumpling as Pascal tightened his grip.

"Of course, sir." His tone was pleasant when he replied. He held the wrinkled scroll to the bat, and the creature plucked it with its tiny claws, flapping its dark wings against the light as it chased after its flock.

"I must say, this is an idea I find very impatient to wait." Icarus spoke nonchalantly, staring after the black dot as it shrank into the pale sky.

"Flattered." Pascal's voice was thick with excitement. Though his posture was humble, his eye weren't as they bore into Icarus's back.

From where he couldn't see, his master narrowed his gaze, an unreadable tinge in his ruby eyes. "There's to be no fail, am I clear?"

Pascal quickly lowered his glare. "Yes, sir."

"Splended."

The gray ranger lifted a gnarled hand. Thin wisps of black fire danced about his fingers, twirling and flickering, then diminishing with a puff of smoke as his hand snapped into a tight fist.

"Miniforce," he rasped, the mannerly demeanor distorting into pure malice. "Everything has only just began."

He threw back his head and let out a series of deafening cackles, and the stony floor beneath him erupted into a web of deep, narrow cracks, frothing with crimson lava.

Author's note:

Thank you so much for reading through the beginning of my fanfiction. I hope you enjoyed it!

Apologies for the boring details in the story, I've already reduced it down as best as I could - I'm a quite descriptive writer... 😅 You're free to skim over the descriptions if they bore you, but please make sure you don't skip the important parts!

And yes, remember the unnamed villain at the very end of 'Miniforce, the final battle part 2'? I decided to choose him as Pascal's new master in this fanfiction - Icarus. (The name is from Greek mythology)

Some of you may find the prologue a little too dark for your liking, while some of you might enjoy the seriousness. This book is often jumping between light-hearted & funny slices of life to dark & thrilling adventures, just like the Miniforce series.

Are you excited to see our adorable heroes - MG03 team - again in the oncoming story? Don't worry - they'll appear soon!

And before you go...

Until then, please stay tuned for the next chapter!
