The critters yelped as a teetering sack of flour crashed onto the trunk floor, causing a bang loud enough to startle birds from miles away.

Quick as a flash (literally), Volt darted out of the parked truck the group was carefully sneaking out of, distracting the perplexed truck driver from noticing the frozen team.

So much for leaving unnoticed before the flour was unloaded.

The remaining critters scrambled from the vehicle and dove into the nearby bushes, four pairs of eyes nervously peeking out from the breaks between the leaves.

The driver scanned his surroundings, having lost sight of the blue squirrel. He gave his head a little shake and continued unloading the flour sacks.

The critters signed in relief, rejoined by Volt as they slipped further into the bushes and away from the manmade path. According to Anna's GPS, they weren't too far from the Calling Cliffs.

As the group neared the red destination mark on the screen, the verdant greeneries thinned out into dry, lifeless patches. Though they took a different route from the last trip, the surroundings were still disturbingly familiar.

"When do we meet up with Ray, Hawk, and um, Ipas?" Volt asked under his breath, peering at Anna's tablet screen. The white bunny scowled at the mention of Ipas's name and edged away from him.

"Hawk should notify us through the mic if the coast is clear—" She muttered, but was interrupted by the sound of something rather large landing behind them, causing a clang as they hit the stone ground.

The critters shrieked at the sudden presence and swiveled to see a familiar green ranger still crouched in a landing position.

"Sh-shhh!" Hawk hushed them frantically, struggling to muffle the team's shocked squeaks with his hands and looking frustrated that he only had two. "It's me!"

"You scared us!" Volt whisper-screamed.

"We thought it was the villains!" Max grumbled.

"I know, I'm sorry!" Hawk whisper-yelled, clearly regretting his decision. "I didn't think you guys would be startled that easily!"

"In our defense, we are in Pascal's lair." Sammy glared.

A mechanical beep echoed through the miniature earpieces the critters wore in their ears. "All clear." Ray's low, stern voice spoke. The team searched their surroundings, spotting the dark figure atop a cliff peak some distance away, sweeping watchful gaze over the landscape before them. Being a descendant of multiple species of animals, he had inherited eagle's vision—an advantage as a lookout.

You could have notified us this way! Volt mouthed to Hawk, jabbing a finger at his pointy squirrel ear.

"Enough, let's transform." Sammy ordered the others.

"I'm the leader!" Volt snapped, snatching his Force Gem from his pocket and angrily tossing it into the air. A strong glow glazed over his chibi form, transforming him into the humanoid blue ranger.

Lucy's mouth pressed into a thin line as she studied her blue teammate with concern. Volt had been acting more irritable than usual, without his signature optimism and charisma.
