"So, what exactly does these do now?" Volt questioned, carefully studying the Force Gem handed to him with interest.
"For the time being, they'll be able to protect your injuries and numb your pain when you transform. It does not heal them, but it'll be easier for you in battle without the pain." Dr. jeremy explained.
"Awesome!" Volt exclaimed, with excitement like a young boy receiving candies. "Miniforce, transform!"
Blinding blue glow enveloped him as his chibi figure elongated and humanized, fading to leave the excited leader back in his ranger form.
"This is incredible!" He yelled, punching the shoulder of a newly transformed Sammy. "I don't feel anything at all!"
Sammy punched him back, growling in irritation. "Just because you don't feel it doesn't mean it's not there, so you might as well stop hopping around like a bouncy ball."
"Oh, right."
"Your wound is protected," Dr. Jeremy assured them as the rest of the group transformed. "For now, at least. Just save your energy for the missions, we're not really sure how long the numbing can last, so be cautious and don't overuse them."
...
"Alright, is everyone clear?" Volt asked, reciting his plan to the group as they dropped their transformations and gathered outside the headquarters door, meeting up with Hawk, Anna, and a transformed Ray.
"Taking a trip to the mountains and climb it on foot, distract the entire army and make sure no one notices a group of colorful rangers taking a walk inside their hideout, drop a bomb in their power source, if we can find one." Sammy summarized. "Easy."
"Ipas will meet us halfway and guide us to the secret hideout," Volt chose to ignore Sammy's sarcastic comment. "Hawk will distract the enemies with whatever distractions he planned and lure them out. Ray will find a hiding spot as the lookout and communicate through the mic if he sees anything. The rest of us follow Ipas in there. Understood?"
The group nodded. Ray had suggested to take the dangerous role and lure the army, but Hawk had insisted he has a better chance of distraction, and, well, no one had been able to argue. Except Sammy, who commented that Volt would have been perfect for the job if he hadn't had the leader's duty.
...
"And you're so sure this is the best transportation." Anna huffed, shuffling as far away from Volt as possible behind the huge sack of flour they hid under.
"Positive," Volt muttered.
Their stowaway truck hit a bump in the road, and a sack of flour tipped over where it had been leaning against the wall, nearly crushing Lucy and spilling white powder all over an unsuspecting Max.
"So you say." Anna stifled a laugh as Sammy hobbled over, helping the now white beaver brush off the flour.
The truck headed down the road leading to the town nearest the Calling Cliffs. Comfortable or not, it was the closest transportation they could find for their destination, as a vehicle or plane from headquarters would surely have raised suspicion.
"Why didn't Ray come along?" Volt pondered out loud. "I mean, was his pride so big he just wouldn't set it down for an easy ride?"
Lucy glared at him from the other side of the trunk, and the blue squirrel squirmed, uncomfortable with how many unfriendly looks he was receiving today. "What? I mean he could have just detransformed and—oh."
Ray had let them know he wouldn't be taking the suggested transportation, instead deciding to use his wings for the road, following the truck from above. So high up, he could easily be mistaken for a passing raven if spotted.
Volt swallowed as his own insensitivity sank in, finally deciding to keep himself quiet for the rest of the way.
