*Daya's POV*

There was one more day until the concert and it was hard keeping my cool at work.

Today was a strangely slow day at the mall. It was Thursday and usually, the teens get here around four. I look up at the clock and see that it's one now. Time for my break!

I clock in and text Mio to meet me at our usual spot. The place we meet up is at the mall's food court, which is about a two minute walk from the store I work at, The Chocolate Factory.

Mio is lucky enough to be directly across from it. She works at Jordan's Shoes. And guess what? They only sell the really, really old Jordan's. How ironic.

And guess what else?

She gets all the hot single guys in her store, while I get little granny's and boys that are taken. At least, I get discounts on all the chocolate!

When I arrive to the table, I see two paper bags: Wendy's and Canes. I love Canes!

"Any cute guys today?" I ask, sitting down.

"A couple of five's and this one guy," Mio smiled, not giving everything at once.

"Well who!"

"Uhm, a dude from my elementary school was in there. He's a total babe and he's so nice. Do you remember Matthew?"

"No-Wait! He's the one that hit puberty in like ninth grade and you started to talk about him all the time! Right?"

"YAAS," Mio giggled, "Well, he gave me his number and said we should hang out sometime."

"YAAS! My baby has finally got a boyfriend!" I reached over the table to pinch her cheeks.

She swatted me away, laughing, "What about you and your boo thang, huh?"

My eyes widened and I sighed. I completely forgot about him. He hasn't even sent me a message.

"So, the douche forgot your birthday. Red flag, missy!" Mio pointed a finger at me.

"Boys forget everything!" I laugh, covering up the real feels.

"Uh huh. Don't worry. I'll beat his ass," Mio mumbles.

I chuckle to myself and we continue to eat in silence.

After some silence, my phone beeped repeatedly and Kaleb's name popped onto the screen.

"Speak of the devil," I cleared my throat and slid my finger across the screen, "Hello?"

"Hey babe! Happy birthday! I got us plans at Applebee's tonight and I got you 29 Seconds of Summers tickets!"

I giggled to myself, "Thank you, but there's a problem. Mio got me tickets to see them, too."

"But these are like third row! Mio can't afford anything like that! Please babe!"

"Well, actually, Mio can afford it. She got me fifth row and backstage passes and I get to meet them!" I roll my eyes and Mi laughs.

"Fine then! I'll go return these. Be ready for seven tonight," Kaleb angrily hangs up.

"Well?" Mio asks raising an eyebrow.

"He said happy birthday to me. Then he said he made reservations at Applebee's. I hate Applebee's. Then he got me 29 Seconds of Summers tickets and I told him you got me that."

"Fucking prick."

Kaleb and I have been dating for about five months. I knew him from my senior year from high school and we were acquaintances for a while. That is until he called me out of the blue and confessed his crush on me. And so we went on some dates and now we are boyfriend and girlfriend. Yay.

•••

"Hey, Mi?" I call out to my lazy friend.

"Yeah?" She sits up from laying down and looks at me. Crumbs were scattered across her.

"Do I look okay?"

Mio scoffs, "You look cute A.F. Daya you shouldn't worry, alright? Douches don't really care how you look."

I smile and grab my purse just as I hear Kaleb beep his car horn.

When we got to the restaurant, Kaleb and I were seated at a table in the middle of the room. I hope my anxiety doesn't get to me.

"You look handsome," I say, trying to get rid of the silence.

"Awe, thanks babe. You look pretty, too!" Kaleb grins and soon his smile turns into a frown as a male waiter comes to the table.

"My name is James and I'll be your server for tonight. What would you two like?" The boy, looking seventeen, taps his pen against his notepad.

"We'll have two waters, a burger, and a salad for the lady. Thank you," Kaleb shoos the waiter, "I said you can go."

James' mouth was gaped as was mine. We were both surprised that he would order for me. He's never done that before!

The waiter shakes his head and smiles at me, "What will you be having, miss?"

I'm glad one of us recovered quickly.

"Uhm, I'll take a Sprite, a medium pasta platter, and cheese sticks. Thank you!" I beam and nod at the boy.

We hand him our menus and the silence strikes again. Kaleb rolled his eyes and went to work with his phone. While we waited for our meals, he just kept texting people or going on his social medias.

I was getting fed up with it and luckily our food came just in time.

"Babe, eat up your food! It's gonna get cold!" I smile, digging in.

"Sarah took Johnny to Paris over the summer. We should totally do that!" Kaleb ignored me.

What the hell?

"Who's Sarah and Johnny?"

"My ex-girlfriend and friend. It doesn't matter to you."

We went back to silence again until Mio texts me.

~Matthew is gonna be over for a little bit. Text me when you're on your way!

I respond:

~okay boooo ;)

I giggle lightly and I hear someone clear their throat.

"Who's that?" Kaleb says deeply.

"Mio."

"I don't think you should hang around her anymore. She's a slut. I see the way she flirts with guys. She gold digs them. That girl is ridiculous."

Did he really just fucking say that?

"That girl is my best friend. She's my sister. And if you don't like it, I don't care." I huff.

"You're not hanging out with her as long as your my girlfriend!" Kaleb points his finger at me.

I scoff, standing up.

"You know what? I'm not your girlfriend anymore!" I slap him hard across his face and pour my Sprite in his lap.

"This is going to stick to my pants, Daya!" Kaleb whines, also standing up.

I take out a five and smack it on the table, "You can call your mom to clean it out, douchebag!"

As I left the building, loud clapping and 'woo's' were sounded.

That prick deserved it! I hope Mio can pick me up.
