"She's happy"

"One of the hardest things in life is watching the person you love, love someone else."

Caroline POV

I shake the raven-haired girl awake. She looks up at me with groggy eyes and I give her a stern look. "It's been 3 days and you haven't left her side. You need to eat something." She looks away from me and looks to the sleeping tribrid next to her. "I don't get it. Why hasn't she woken up yet?" I sit beside her and I put my arms around her. She leans into me and I feel her body shake as she cries. "Maybe she just needs time to rest. When was the last time she slept? Like really slept?" Penelope pulls away to think about it. "I-I don't know. Probably the night before we left to get rid of Malivore."

Excuse me? That was like 3 months ago. "She's probably just catching up on her sleep." Penelope nods. "That makes sense." She puts her head back down on the bed and closes her eyes. I rub her back soothingly and I get this nice feeling. She feels like a daughter to me, even though I can't remember anything about her that she hasn't told me. "Make sure you go to the extra class today. You have a lot of work to catch up on." She groans and I sigh and stand up. I leave the room and close the door quietly. "You've been spending a lot of time with them." The soft voice startles me. I turn around to see Josie with her arms crossed over her chest.

"Yes, well they've gone through a lot. In some ways, they kind of remind me of my friends and me when we were younger." "They're nothing like you. You were honest and kind while Penelope bit Jade, and they're hiding something." I look at her curiously. "What do you mean they're hiding something?" She holds out a necklace and I stare at it. It has the Mikaelson emblem on it and it's an exact replica of the necklace that Hope and Penelope wear. "Where did you get this?" She shrugs. "I don't know. I can't remember where I got it."

I give it back to her and sigh. She was bound to find out. I mind as well tell her. "Follow me." I start walking towards the library and I hear her following me. Once we get inside, I make sure no one's inside. Content that it's empty and I head over to the vampire section and I look at the books. I pick out the one I want and lead Josie to a table. I set the book down and open it.

"The Original Vampires," she reads out. "Oh, like the Mikaelsons?" I nod. "The original vampires are thousands of years old. They're known to be murderers and killers. But one thing about them I always liked was their need to protect their family." "Niklaus Mikaelson," Josie starts reading things about him and I grimace at all the mentions of him killing people. "Wow. He sounds horrible." I laugh. "He was. He was an evil person, as a villain. But all villains are broken. That's what he was." I sigh. "But he also had a certain charm about him that I couldn't resist." Josie gags. "Please tell me you didn't have sex with him." I look away and cover my face. "I did." "Eugh, mom!"

"Okay, moving on. The point of me showing you this is I wanted to show you something." I point to the picture on the right page. She gasps. "That's what my necklace looks like! It's th-the Mikaelson emblem?" She steps back in surprise. "But how is that possible? I don't even know the Mikaelsons. I met them for the first time a few days ago." She looks so perplexed I feel bad. "Hope and Penelope also wear the same necklace. Does that mean that they're Mikaelsons?" I shrug. "I don't know," I lie.

"That would make sense. The Mikaelsons came to save their own. You said it yourself. They care about family. Oh my god! How could I be so dumb? They're both Mikaelsons." She gives me a quick hug and says, "Thanks, mom! I love you." With those words, she leaves with the book in hand.
